The 6950 spec recommends a power supply of 500W. Do you think 550W is enough to power the whole machine?

Yeah, 550W will be plenty. When GPU manufacturers give specs, it's for an average machine (relative to the GPU in question) with that GPU in it; it's for the whole machine, not just the graphics card.

manufacturers always declare bigger recomended PSU toojust to cover theyr arses in case some PSU say one power figure and it is lower in reality.

Hey guys, never got around to purchasing my PC at Christmas. So I'm looking again at the moment. I already have a spec listed in this topic and am just wondering if there are any better options available for the same budget now that its 3 months later??? Let me know anyway.
