Good beach but far from the best in Ireland :D and the Carribean reference in that article is above laughter :) good spot in the Summer though :)

There's a smell from a sewer or stream at the south end of the beach which isn't how I would imagine the Carribean to be!

That is land water I believe and the smell is rotting vegetation. The sewers empty out the coast road somewhere.

Kilkee like the Caribbean, what a joke:D. I will never trust the lonely planet guide again.

The people on this thread are taking the comment way out of context. It didn't say Kilkee was like the Caribbean just that it has the same kind of white powdery sand which is true.

Whatever the cause, it certainly does not do Kilkee any favours!

Again out of context, that's not what was said. People are putting words in the journalists mouth. White and powdery like the Caribbean that was the statement. And it is! He didn't say it was unpolluted like the Caribbean, he didn't say it was sunny like the Caribbean, he didn't say it had palm trees like the Caribbean. He just passed a comment about the sand.

Neither does Kilkee. A little exaggeration goes a long way.

Kilkee is not the nicest beach in Clare, nowhere near it IMO.
I personally don't get the attraction to Kilkee myself.

Because it's one of the nicest, horseshoe shaped and safest beaches in Ireland

Kilkee is a ghost town these days, even in the summer. Once Kilkee was a thriving little town with lots of tourists but those days are long gone. So many vacant holiday homes there now its unreal. And btw it is nothing like the Carribean, never was and never will be. All Kilkee has is an arcade and a swimming pool. A stupid article in my opinion.

Long time since you've been there by the looks of things.

You live in Limerick whereas i live close to Kilkee and i'm always in the town. Whether its the middle of January or the middle of July, its mostly always a ghost town. Some weekends in the summer it can be busy but most weekends its empty. You couldn't say that about the town before the recession kicked in.

Have no idea who you are razorblades. But I read another thread you contributed to ( http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056521511 ), and the more I read your messages the more you sound like a person named skopzz who I also believe to be from the same area as You claim you are from, and who made wild foreecasts in the past.

You one and the same person?

If you have a problem with a post, report it, if you have a problem with a user either ignore the user, PM them to discuss whatever the issue is, PM a mod asking to investigate.

If someone uses another account,it aint against the rules afaik.

Razor is right,Kilkee is a ghost town for most of the year, they have a few decent weekends in the year, weather permitting, other than that, its extremely quiet with holiday homes empty all year round, there are so many of them.

The beech is fabulous, ive often been there early in the morning to see the tractor cleaning up the seaweed, but somehow i prefer Fanore, its not commercialised in anyway.

Can't understand this "Ghost Town" idea. I have relations there and it is hopping from Whit till the middle of August. Busy all the time. If the definition of Kilkee in Summer is Ghost Town god help the other resorts in Clare

Ahh, the town is nothing but a ghost town now, you should visit more often and see for yourself instead of coming in the middle of August.

I am there all year round and I can tell it has its highs and lows but to call it a ghost town is ott nonsense.
