ESB Oddness

    Long story short.

Moved from a house we owned to a rented house, moved the ESB account to the new address.

Moved back out of rented accom and back into our house, moved the ESB account back to the old address.

However, the ESB keep attempting to charge use for the old address (rented accomodation), claiming because the new tennants have not signed up, they cannot remove that address from our account. Cue us checking our bill every month, and have to get them to adjust our direct debit. We have cancelled it subsequently, so avoid paying someone elses bill.

They accept we no longer live there, and that we have done everything correctly, but they will not remove the rented accomodation meter from our bill, until someone else is willing to put their name to it.

Surely someone else who has rented must have come across this before. How the hell do we solve this one?

when you call with the meter reading theyll close off your account and send you a last bill. All you need to give them is the landlords name and number. His problem after that.

    Hi Jaden,

As token101 and Davy advised above, if you have a name and number (or name and address) for the landlord/letting agency looking after the property, and a final meter reading, we will be able to close off the account in your name.

The main reason for this, other than liability for electricity used, is to avoid the property being disconnected if there is nobody claiming responsibility for the live supply. Properties considered vacant on system are liable to be disconnected for safety reasons, and obviously we try to avoid such an eventuality in the case of a simple change of occupancy. See here for more information.

If you PM me the following details, I'll be happy to have a look at it for you:
    • Your account details (a/c no., address)
    • Your full name, date of birth and contact number (for account security)
    • The address of the property in question
    Thanks,

    David.
