As steted above, I was passing the garage and price displayed was 99.9 cent per litre, both - unleaded and diesel.
Cars where lining up for it.
I wonder how many liters per fill do they allow at that price?

What makes you think there's a limit?

Well, the Maxol garage I ususlly use won't let you fill for any more that 100€ in one go. Charging only .99€ a litre, I would imagine there is a limit set per one fill.

Is that the garage that was caught for messing with the pumps last year?

Edit: Looks like it is: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/1107/breaking43.html
    Thanks, but no thanks.....

Is this some kind of promotion?
Hmm, I wonder how genuine the fuel is if no petrol left only DIESEL (Fuel that can be laundered).

    how comes it so cheap?

Very stange, its not like a promotional offer is going to gain a petrol station any long term customers if the price is back to normal again the next day and people who come along to fill up during any offer like this are extremely unlikely to buy anything in the shop/deli etc that they wouldn't have anyway.

And as pointed out, all the tanks would hold the same and yet petrol gone and diesel still left....hmmmm, no thanks.

Got wind of an impending customs check perhaps? Make money and get rid of the evidence!

Possible reaction to the loss of business they have seen since their pilfering ways were well publicised?

    I hope so...

Seen it earlier, given their history we avoided though

Given the duty on fuel, and the fact that the garages selling for 1.53 or whatever only make a few cent profit, it doesn't add up..

Or, fill your jerry can first, you know how much that takes, and see if it matches the pumps counter. if it does, fill the car :D

Interesting how they do this on a Sunday when there's no customs officials around to take a sample.

They always have petrol for cheaper than other places although never seen it this cheap.
Once they were selling it for around 1.30c when everyone else was selling petrol for around 1.50c...

I usually fill up my tank when I pass by them and need filling up. So far had no problems with their petrol and didn't notice any difference from other places...

There's no agri petrol being laundered and sold cheap though. This is the big problem with cheap diesel - it's probably agri diesel that's been laundered and it's a bad idea to run it in any diesel made in the last 10-15 years.

I know a guy involved in validating the precision of fuel pumps and there can be big variations. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to save a few cents - using more fuel and two pumps are probably dispensing a different quantity of fuel. So, within reason, I fill up where's convenient and part of my journey.

I'd actually be suspicious if it was too cheap and probably give it a miss:o...

This is a saving of about 30% to be fair.

If the measurement was off, if you were getting about 600ml as opposed to a litre, you'd be bang on paying the same amount as everyone else. How many people honestly know how much their tank takes? i.e. In litre terms NOT in terms of price. I know very few. Most know it "costs" €60 to fill their tank, but not how much the tank holds.

99.9 is too cheap to be true. A brilliant way to get rid of stock quickly, especially on a Sunday when there would be no time to run a sample or check delivery quantities. Sorry lads, but the old saying rings true, if its too good then it probably is.

I know that if I put €20 in my car, the needle goes nearly half way, if I was only getting €10 worth, trust me, I'd notice before I left the forecourt

Wow, imagine being back to the days when you finish fuelling and the litre and € clocks on the pump are showing the same figures....

I remember when I used to watch the litres gauge instead of the price one , the good old days of 2008 , 89c diesel

Have to disagree with pretty much everything you said Mr Doctor !

Getting a customer to try your station is the key, the majority of people use the same garage repeatly to fill up pretty much regardless of price (within reason), getting them to try your site is the key to new customers, you hope they get a good feeling and keep returning.

All tanks would hold the same, but garages pretty much sell at least twice the ratio of unl to derv, so it makes perfect sense that unl runs out long before derv

And if it was an impending customs check the last thing on earth you would do is draw huge attention to yourself and cause a traffic jam on your site, you'd just get the tanks pumped out overnight.

Not to mention that tanks automatically shut off when the reach a minimum level, normally 500 ltrs, so customs would still have no difficulty whatsoever getting a sample either way.

I'd would imagine its a weekend blitz to get new customers without selling huge fuel volumes as weekends are much quieter and are without the risk of being hammered by commerical vehicles.

The lost would be underwritten by the oil company, I'd hazard a guess that they would have about 40k derv and 60k unl storage capabilities.

Serious money they are losing, the guts of 58-60 k

pass by this morning and they were fences sealing off the entrance/exit..

This is either they are undergoing renovations and trying to get rid of the fuel or completely going out of business due to recent publicised news regarding the fine..

Was just going to reply that maybe the place is leased and at the end of the term and anything left in the tank is lost, or just that they knew they were bust and trying to generate cash quickly before clearing off.

I was informed Sunday by member of staff that renovations will commence for five weeks.

Is this the place that was charging about 40c per litre more than anyone else a few years back?

I drive a VW Touareg and the tank has a capacity of 100 litres.

Now I drive it until the range is 15,10 or 5 miles before refilling. Yesterday it was at 15miles when I pulled into the Castlebellingham Applegreen heading north.

I filled it to the filler cap and it took 95.45 litres - the pump cut out at 93 or so.

I think AG pumps are on the money but that when the range says 0 there is probably another 5 litres in the tank at a minimum.

As for the price - not possible plain and simple.
HT - Do you really think a station would take a 60k hit like this - why go so cheap better surely to go 10cents less and extend it for longer etc?

Yep. Then more recently they were done for selling fuel by not-quite-the-litre: http://www.independent.ie/national-news/courts/dublin-service-station-fined-14k-for-fuel-overcharging-2927898.html

And probably a few "under new management signs" to get back the punters confidence.

Still wouldn't fill up there no matter what they do.

You can do your own simple test there: bring a 5l can, and fill that, first. If it's ok, fill the car. If not, bring it in to the counter and get a refund. :-P

Just heard on the radio, there's a station in Dundalk selling petrol for €1.25 a litre. How do they do this, even €1.50 would be pushing the profit margin surely?
