Stay clear of.donedeal, full of byb and puppy farmers.
Try <snip> nearly sure she has pups but not sure how many still available.

    Snip

The OP said they wanted a good breeder, not going to find one on that website.

OP, best you can do is try the club

My aunt is a registered dog breeder from wexford, i got two poms from her three years ago, she uses that site to advertise her pups, all legal an above board, fair enough i take the point on board that there are some people out there that maybe use the website for puppy farms, but in my case i wouldnt condone it, only passed on the website cause i had a good reply with it, sadly more and more puppy farm breeders are creeping into all sorts or decent websites where dogs or pups are for sale, takes a keen eye to spot them,

Sorry meant to say that she has her dogs registered with the ikc in harolds cross and has a good reputation with dogs through their generations,

Im sure your aunt is lovely, but just so you know, anyone, including puppy farmers can register their dogs with the IKC so that counts for nothing really.

Registering your dog is only a way of telling the pedigree and lineage of your dog, nothing else. It guarantees nothing or doesntmean the breeder is decent or reputable.

It is true that some legit breeders sell on Donedeal but there are some dodgy ones on there as well! We bought one Shih Tzu through Donedeal and while she is perfectly healthy - we don't think she was well socialised before we got her. As a result she is very shy and weary of anyone she's not met more than a dozen times. (She is lovely once she gets to know you though!) We have also gotten two Shih Tzu pups through Marshall Craig and both turned out to be fantastic - really well socialised and reared. The difference between the social skills of the dogs we have gotten through Donedeal and through Marshall is huge. They are more expensive than some available on Donedeal but over the course of the 12-15 years you will have your pup it is insignificant. If you do go the Donedeal route research what you need to look out for in a breeder and in the pups you will be meeting (things to look out for in the breed such as groin hernias etc.) and don't be afraid to say no if you don't feel right (no matter how lovely the pups seem!). Another breeder (runs the club north of the boarder) from Co. Down is Majella Rooney - Marshall would be able to tell you if she has pups available.

Well maybe in my aunts case she,s very lucky that her dogs are a great breed and doesnt run anything dodgy, i have seen some puppy farms meself over the years, and im sure a person with good cop on would know when they are in one also, as i said earlier a vast majority of websites which have good reputations arent all they scratched up to be, such is the increasing number of said farms around ireland, and sadly nothing being done to prevent it,... heartbreaking,

im sure done deal has good breeders on it but if i was a " good" breeder i would not put them on done deal as it has such a bad name which would give me a bad name if you know what i mean. i would except a non reg'd dog that has the full health tests in relation to breed specific health problems than any oul reg'd dog with no testing done but a vet check whch does not count for much

List of UK kennel club breeders of Shih-Tzu, names with a flower are kennel club assured

    http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/services/public/findapuppy/display.aspx?breed=4102&area=0

Unfortunately there are non in Northern Ireland, but relevant health tests recommend by the KC for each breed are listed on the site too but:
There are not currently any veterinary screening schemes or DNA tests for disease relevant to this breed under the Assured Breeder Scheme, however you should still ask breeders and refer to breed clubs about health issues in the breed.

so I am afraid this will make your job quite hard, so the best thing to do is keep trying the breed club as you really want to find someone that comes recommended in this case.

<snip>Rescue a Shih Tzu!!! loads of them are abandoned every year because they take a bit of looking after. Why buy a dog from a breeder when there are so many out there looking for homes? I've just adopted my second dog and while they can require a lot of work, it is extremely rewarding to see a neglected/unloved dog returning to their happy place.

One important thing a lot of people forget is that a good responsible breeder will not even start breeding their dog until they know there are people interested or are willing to keep all the pups..sadly these types of breeders are few and far between but it's something people should look out for when looking for a responsible breeder.

A good breeder shouldn't need to advertise their pups all over the place and esp. not on websites that already have a bad reputation even if they are a genuine breeder they should realise they are advertising on a site that has far too many dodgy characters on it and it should be avoided.

Word of mouth and talking to registered breeders is the way to go, a good breeder will not mind you asking lots of questions and in turn a good breeder will ask you lots of questions. A responsible breeder will care about where their dog is going there should be plenty of info. too if you Google on what to look out for and what not to do eg never buy from a guy in a car park etc.

BTW - recommendations of specific sources against forum rules so I have to snip these - you can send this to the OP by PM instead.

Andrew33 - pushing a rescue agenda on people where they have specificly asked for help finding a breeder is not tolerated here, please don't do this, your post is off-topic and rude
