Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello all,

would appreciate some comments on this shot taken at Kilkenny castle.
I gave it the high-pass treatment. Does the shallow dof work, is the subject a bit boring?

    Thanks!

i would say the processing works, but the content holds little interest.

+1, excellent PP but feels empty.

I really like the PP, but a subject (Small animal, person) on the step would really set off the picture

Yeah, I think the PP is the only good thing about it. Here's the sooc shot. It was pretty boring to begin with and I don't think any PP will help much.

Yep I'd second that - post processing is really good. If you had a main subject in there it would be a fantastic photo. Care to share how you did the pp? :)

I like the banality of it. Is this taken from a wider series of steps? Are you going down the contemporary art road?

    LOL, nice on Smash! :)

PP is handy enough. I did the basic stuff in Lightroom, contrast, toning, vignette and took it into PS for the high-pass effect.

    1. Ctrl-J to duplicate the image.
    2. Switch the blend mode on the new layer to Overlay (don't worry about the contrast)
    3. Filter -> Other -> High Pass.
    4. I used 4 pixels for the radius afaik.

    Simple as that :)

Thanks. No, the bottom step is the first. I'm trying to do something a bit arty. My idea was to try making the door look mysterious so someone would imagine what's behind it.

Arent we all so hilarious! I dont know much but i was thinking if you zoomed out or stepped back in such a way that the whole door was visible that would make the subject a bit more interesting. Like having it blurred in the background with focus on the steps could represent the dread someone feels climbing the steps to go through the door because of whats waiting for them on the other side!.....
Nice place. I must go there some time.
