Yeh mid table because we have 11 Van Persies on the pitch? Nothing to do with the team working so hard behind him assisting in the goals, and in general play, yes Van Persie has been a huge part the of us finishing 3rd but to write of other players contributions is insulting and stupid all in one. Van Persie has been the main man playing up front getting all the supply if he wasnt our top scorer id be very concerned. Sure without Messi or Ronaldo Barcelona or Real would be mid table in La Liga .

you can create changes all day long but if there's no one there to finish them, what the fúck use is that. creating chances, no goals to show for it, liverpool spring to mind

But what can you do unless all teams adopt a policy of big bonus for targets, over massive wages no matter what the outcome or performances.:(

Get UEFA or FIFA to get off their holes and do something. What annoys me is madrid were doing this ages ago, going into massive debt without a hope of paying it back(waiting on the govt to bail them out by buying their training ground) and UEFA\FIFA said sfa, the italians were at it in the late 90's. The minute the insane wages\fee's hits england, Platini's sticks his head in. They're dawdling because they're looking for a way to curb city\chelsea\psg etc but not effect madrid\barca etc.

Well now isnt that well informed post, its been reported as a 5 million signing on fee not one that comes laced with clauses.

And you know for sure it Arsene Wenger who controls the purse strings so rigidly?

5 million signing on fee? Well that's worse again! He only gets it as a once off. He'll just laugh at that.

130k a week and a once off 5 million bonus for a probable 4 year contract or 250k a week over 4 years.

You do the maths on which is financially more attractive to VP.

Just as RVP11 said, Arsenal play nice football but who would score a lot of the crucial goals only for VP?

    Walcott?

    Chamac?

And his young family in London too let's not forget, would he uproot them just for money?

What if (God forbid) he were to suffer a career ending injury 1 or 2 years into the contract ?

Ah, how far is Arsenal/North London to Manchester, maybe 2.5 hours drive.

For an extra 120k a week I'd say he would put up with that and Man City would have no problem him living in London. One possible scenario.

Life of a footballer is limited and VP has had a lot of injuries so I'm sure he knows better than anyone he could be out of the game for good in 2-3 years due to a bad injury.

    Always possible.

Footballers are more keenly aware of how short a football career is than anyone else, and its hard to blame them for putting financial reasons above all others, since Van Persie has a number of years left to make big money.

I'd say VP would love to stay at Arsenal, but he has to be realistic about his own value.

If Man City were prepared to give him 250k a week, he'd be very very tempted and who would blame him.

To be honest, 130k a week (ignoring the once off bonus) is pittance and almost an insult.

    He's worth at least 150k a week and probably 175k a week.

My point was to do it he would have more motivations than just money.;)
I'd say it's hard to resist the temptation of more money, but even harder to resist the Temptation of playing with a team who is more capable of winning, and already has done.
This is why, if RVP does sign on again this summer, he will be showing he wants to get a trophy with Arsenal.
    I hope.:o
I wonder does Wenger talk to him about what he wants from us in a season, performance wise, over money.

At the end of the day it all comes down to what his own motivations are in life well know soon enough im sure, because lets face it very few teams at the momment can match Citys financial clout with the unreal wages they offer them along with a few other clubs in world football have really just fcuked things up from a fans point of view.

He could be hapy with 5 million and 130 k a week if he feels settled at Arsenal I know loyalty is rare in football these days but it can still happen from time to time.

Im sure come the end of his career regardless of were he chooses to play hell be safe financially for the rest of his life either way. So after that it boils down to his family, weahter, were he likes to live etc but ive a feeling hell sign a new contract.

I'd be delighted if I got 130 grand a week to kick a ball around! It's nowhere near a pittance. It's more than most people make in a year! He definitly isnt strapped for cash. No top footballer is.

Fcuk what has the game gone to, when £130k a week is considered pittance?

Not disagreeing with your sentiment plasma, just that it really is a sad state of affairs.

You also have to take into account RVP's injury record. This season was an anomaly compared to previous. In the last 5 years, he has only made more than 40 appearances twice and made less than 25 appearances in 2 of those. I would be extremely surprised if he went next season as injury free as he did this year. I would take any big offers that come our way if he's not willing to sign. It won't be possible to replace him but letting him run down his contract is a big risk.

In other news it circulating around that weve made a bid for Kagawa id love for that to be true but until I see any player in an Arsenal jersey ill be taking every rumour with a pinch of salt.

He is right though, one year later and the fans still haven't moved on.
I am happy for him, just as i am happy for us to finish 3rd and have BEATEN his Championship winning team.

He'd have at least a year or two left. He signed for us in January 2009. Cant see him only getting a three and a half year contract considerng how highly rated he was. Thats also assuming he didnt sign a new one in the meantime.

Players sometimes go loan for the last few months of their contract to just get their wages off the books or a portion of them.

In a weird kind of way I think Robin is on our side in this one. He so desperately wants to bring success to Arsenal and is likely to demand assurances that top notch quality will be brought in. This interference is usually unhealthy, though in this case it is justified. The Arsenal board need a right kick up the **** with that leg peg of his to wake them up. He's going to tell them what's on all of our minds. I reckon money means f all to him, doesn't seem the type

In all fairness why would French or Spanish players show loyalty to us? We're just another foreign club to them.

TBH I dont begrudge Nasri and co. either going for money, not many people would stay with a job if another job was offering a lot more money.

That's true and I wouldn't begrudge RVP leaving for 250k per week at City. He is almost 30 and it would be probably his last big pay-day.

On the Nasri thing I feel that what he said was probably misinterpreted and twisted somewhat to suit the tabloid mentality of sh** stirring. If he said that certain players were walking onto our team week-in week-out without playing very well then I would show that article to Walcott and Ramsey in particular as it might buck them up.

IMO the only way RVP leaves is if the board, and wenger, dont give him the assurance of both success through quality improvements to the team. I really dont see him being a money whore.

On the subject of Nasri, he was never very good for us. Although i do think that we have ourselves to blame for that, him being played out of pos for most of his time with us. He left for the money, and now, as shown my the pic on the previous page, is quite the hypocrite. fair play to him for collecting the winners medal from the bench, for the most part. I reckon he wont be there much longer anyway, concidering how poor he's been and hazard going there (probably). It's a real non-issue for me.

I've heard it all now - 32 million over 4 years (including the 5 million signing on fee) is now a pittance - ridiculous statement of the year I feel.

Ok Man City will pay him 52 million over the same period - how much will his life be better off with that additional 20 million quid. Especially bearing in mind that he and his family are settled and happy with their life in London

    That's fine..

If Tevez, Rooney, etc can get 250k a week, and they only score a fraction of what VP scores, what's that make VP worth?

Don't blame VP for the state of the market.

I'm outta here now, time for home.

What's the story with the Financial Fair Play?

This needs to get brought in asap, as these few bankrolled clubs are a disaster for the game. They are directly & indirectly inflating players prices and salaries and this is not good for the smaller clubs or the game as a whole.

It's crunch time now for FFP. I think it is supposed to come in fully for next season but clubs have to start reducing their spending more in line with revenues now.

I really hope UEFA stick to their guns on this but I fear it will end up watered down and worthless.

Did the owners not sponsor the jersey or something for a ridiculous amount
How are ufea gonna clamp down on that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,683 ✭✭✭plasmaguy

    VP is probably a realist.

He's won nothing with Arsenal, was he even there the last time they won a trophey?

8 years without a trophey, hell of a long time.

Secondly is realistic about how many years he has left at the top. He's 28 now, so maybe 4-5 years if he stays fit, but he's very injury prone.

As someone said, this is possibly his last big chance.

I'm not saying he will leave, but it would be hard to blame him if he did.

He probably realises Man City have a far far better chance of winning the league and CL next year with their unlimited resources than Arsenal.

8 years is a long time in football for a top player like Van Persie without winning trophies. While he's no doubt loyal, still its nice to win a trophey every now and again, and Wenger has lost the knack of winning trophies lately.

I thought it was for some new sports arena that the club were going to build with sponsored money and they supposedly overevaluated the actually price that will be attributed to the building of it? I could be completely wrong on that though.

Why exactly do spurs get their own forum again? They dont have anywhere near the amount of fans as United and Liverpool on here, but neither of those have their own forums? Hardly seems fair on every one else.

It's because the clubs you mentioned are at the adult table for dinner because they are all big clubs. Their own forum is really a kids table until they become a big club. They can join this forum with their own superthread then
