According to the German TV commentator, Chelsea are in the groups, Arsenal in the qualifiers & Spurs Europa league. I thought we were defo in the groups, anyone got an official link to the correct info?

That has to be wrong. Third definitely gets you to the group stages.

Ian Dennis from Radio 5 Live has confirmed that all 4 English teams qualify for the group stages. Someone has to lose out but it's not Arsenal

That's what I thought, but when you think about it, Spurs are pushed down to Europa and if England get 3 groups & 1 qualifier then who takes the qualifier?

All 4 English clubs are straight into the group stages. Sky confirmed it there.

I don't know who is losing out, it's not the English clubs anyways (except for Spurs obviously :P).

does this sound bizare that my spurs mate is congratulating chelsea and defending them as a team against others who say chelsea where lucky to win it? he should be fuming at them lol!

Anyways what does this mean. Should wenger park the bus to try and win trophies?

Seems like you eitehr have to throw a lot of money to your club and/or park the bus in order to be succesful

If these are the only way to win a trophy, we won't win a trophy under Wenger :)

It looks like defenders win cups - attackers win leagues.

Spurs only have themselves to blame. The only person they should blame for their lack of champions league football is themselves. It should never have come down to Chelsea winning after the fcuk ups we made and the opportunities they should have capitalized on.

not park the bus but defend with a bit more organisation. We could never have kept Bayern to one goal with the possession they had tonight.

Exactly. Spurs couldn't finish higher than the worst Arsenal team for years. They had everything going for them but psychologically were not able to grasp the prize. I can see a lot of their best players jumping ship now. With Giggs almost finished Fergie might even tempt Gale to United now.

Point is, Wenger needs to drop his ways and teach the team to park the bus or spend 200m buying the best attack minded players to try and create barca mk2 team i.e full of tippy tappy all out attack

I was actually going to comment on that. If ya ask me, it wouldn't 'be gunnerly' NOT to be happy :D

That's like if United won the league, asking them not to gloat to Citeh, will not happen.

Yep, we attack and win nothing.

In a way I'm actually happy for Abramovich - Spending all that money and getting what he wants.

All the same, while he might be happy, if I was a CHelsea fan it's feel a bit hollow. No disrespect, just how I imagine I'd feel!

Why? You win the trophy, beat Barca and Bayern Munich en route by sticking to a gameplan that works best to the skills that you have at your disposal. Who will think back and remember the style in which the club won it, only that they did win it. If I was a fan of them the only thing that would matter to me is that the clubs name is on the trophy forever more.

No no, I mean because of the way Chelsea have bought and built up their team since Abramovich bought em. It's like City winning the league, in my eyes they bought the league and it's a hollow victory.

i don't see Chelsea as quite as bad as city in that regard, they were a top 4 team before they were bought out. Plus its taken them years to win the CL, they had to earn it like everyone else, and if Arsenal had done it that way it wouldn't feel one bit hollow to me.

Hmm yeah possibly. But the foundations were built with all that money. The money is also what enticed the likes of Mata away from us. If they didn't have all the money, we would have the more attractive option. Same with Cahill too actually..

Yeah thats what we need, our most successful manager of all time changing his philosophy to one that fits in with a manager that was deemed not good enough for WBA.

Honestly do people think its that simple. That us, armchair fans, can see things that AW can't??? Leave it so, he has done amazing with what he has at his disposal. So much so that people actually think we should be still challenging! Says a lot for AW if you ask me.

If we won one league title under AW and his philosophy it would mean more than having won ten leagues in a row as a City fan. That counts for something.

Money doesn't buy you wins though. Ask City in this years CL!

I don't begrudge them their win at all.

Pi$$ed off that their the first London club to do it, but not about their moneyed ways. Asides, (And I may be going mental here - don't really pay much attention to other teams) but haven't they been fairly quiet in the transfer window of late? Obviously not including Torres in that! But they seem to be paying more of their managers off than buying new talent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,183 ✭✭✭UnknownSpecies

Torres, Mata, Meireles, Cahill.. All would be pretty big signings for other clubs. Pretty big money and wages being thrown at em too. Like I said, don't think they're as bad as City are right now but they do get a lot of help from the Abramovich

i'd think that for them players, you'd think you'd have more of a chance to win something at chelsea rather than with arsenal. I don't think arsenal are a more attractive option at all & won't be until they win something again or winning regularly.

on a side note i'd be in the shít supporters club forum now if i wasn't already banned. Stuff for them. disappointed with chelsea winning but every cloud has a silver lining :D

If they never got the money, they would still be well below us. They never would have assembled all the players that now make them an attractive destination for big players.

Could ya not just sign out for a while to get in there :P

I'm sure Van Persie's career goal is to win the Russian League. Not a hope will this happen. He's 29, been at a big club for quite a few years - he's made his money, he wants sucess.

Not as bad as city but still bad, they've always been poxy gits when it came to dosh, harding pumped alot of money into them and that was how they got top 4, they were very close to adminship when roman saved their assets. They started the crazy wages and city improved on it. Still though thank feck for the wba keeper.

    if's & but's

I don't think anyone who chooses chelsea or man city over arsenal does so solely for money, they know rightly, same as everyone else where the most realistic place is to win trophies.

arsenal are a good proposition, maybe the best with man u, for a talented young player as they know they'll get game time & wenger's history regarding giving youth a chance/developing them. This is probably the only time their a more attractive option for a player.

I'd have them about 4th as the most attractive english club to play for

the rest of the time it comes down to the style of football played at arsenal & their still a big club with the potential to win things + the may fell they have the chance to play regularly at arsenal or if the players french/in the french league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,179 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Its probably for the best that Chelsea are in next years champions league and not spurs, regardless of how hilarious it is. Chelsea have money, lots of it. Had they failed to qualify they'd have just spent big and bought their way back in. They are always going to be a threat when competing for a top 4 place.

Now that spurs have failed to qualify, their big players might be off and they won't have the money or European football to replace them. Hopefully they'll disappear back into mid table mediocrity. It's just like when spurs qualified the first time ahead of man city. I couldn't believe some people were happy with that, city were obviously going to qualify sooner or later due to their massive amount of money. Better in the long run to have less teams who are genuinely capable of finishing in the top 4. I know I'd rather be competing for the title than worrying about coming 4th every year, but it'd be a long way back for a club like arsenal were they to lose champions league football.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,756 ✭✭✭emergingstar

Last nights results could really damage spurs, they could loose a few of the big players and it's gonna be harder for them to attract big names too

I still have a big dislike for chelsea, I think Romans money stopped us having potentially our period of domination and changed the football landscape that we were on top off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,570 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

If Chelsea don't offer Drogba a new contract we must.

Yeah we'll probably get outbid from China/Qatar but it's worth a shot as it means he could stay in London.

    Don't think so Tbh.

I do think it's comical that one season after roman's move to embrace attacking football, chelsea have become the Greece of the CL.
