Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The injury to M'Vila is not so serious[/B]. Touch and go whether he'd be ready for the England game but he's going to the Euros.

Good for him but we might find competition could get a lot stiffer after the Euros unless France implode like 2010 even though good old Raymond is not around this time to oversee an implosion. :)

Hulk is a Phenomenal player and only hasnt been snapped up because of his massive buy out clause, he is as strong as drogba and much more mobile, with a rocket left foot. Pity Arsenal cant afford such sort of quality :(

To be fair i havent seen an awful lot of him to make a proper judgement but if he is better or even as good as Drogba then i think he must be a serious player. I rate Drog highly as a footballer but not so much as a human being.

Pogrebnyak has been released by Fulham. 6 goals in 12 games. Wouldnt be a bad back up if his wages were low.

Notice how Koscielny played the full 0 minutes for France against Serbia and they keep a clean sheet. He didn't feature against Iceland and they shipped two.

Celtic have offically parted company with Darren O'Dea.

I hope nobody gets any ideas !!!!!

The two probably aren't connected tbh. I'd never use a players international form as an indicator of what his form will be like in the coming season (in friendlies anyway).

Friendly form I always feel they are red herrings. If he delivers at the finals though it can only be a confidence booster for the man going into the new season.

Himself and RvP coming out of the finals without injury would be top of my wish list for this championship.

he really impressed against Serbia though and he could well displace the usual centre back pairing of Mexes and Rami. Over the 2 games he was the best centre-back. Not surprising as he is the best of the 3.

He's very well known in Football Manager.

Thats the problem, when people recommend players - have they actually watched them properly or just a youtube highlights clip, or just played FM?!

As much as I like Jaaskeleinen I think he deserves a chance as a Number 1 keeper at a huge club.

Such a shame he spent so long at Bolton

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭keano_afc

Was he injured last year? he must have been shockingly out of form if Bogdan was picked ahead of him.

Anyone watching the Holland game ?

The link up play between Van Persie and Afellay is great
Lets hope the rumours of us trying to sign him are true.

We might need to get Van Persie to sign a new contract first though :D

Afellay and Van Persie linking up well against Northern Ireland. Wonder if he could be the man to help Robin stay at the club seeing as their good friends.

Any chance of Wenger splashing the cash this summer?IMO Arsenal don't need a whole pile just a few defensive additions and one or two more

Same old crap every year. I suppose if struggling to make the CL and saving a bit of cash in the process is the target these days then its no more than we should expect.

to be fair there's nothing wrong with the article in the star, the AST usually ask questions like that & the star have went & called a grilling

john cross wrote an article a few weeks back saying that they might turn their attentions towards the board this year and see the bit about usmanov he could be right

Seeing how the club is run its fairly obvious that we wont be spending much more money.

Didnt Arsene attend the AST yearly meetings? Dont think he's coming this year after he got roasted a few years back

won't be spending much more and not spending any more at all is a big difference.

To be honest all this "we should buy him + him" etc. is a load of nonsense, no harm in having an opinion but people think they know more about football & what the team needs than the manager is ridiculous

Oh we'll buy someone alright. Probably a kid who might / might not do a job for us in 5 years time. We should not ignore the gaping holes that were there for much of last year though. All the teams around us are strengthening so we need to keep abreast of them too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 560 ✭✭✭andrew241983

Lads this stuff gets said every season just look at what everyone was saying at tthe start of this season and then quickly backtracked... Wenger will sort it out he always does...its harder with the euros with clubs and players trying to hold out to see if they have a gud tournament to get an unflated price...but remember wenger isnt sitting at home having wine and cheese everyday ..he is hard at work every dsy and night trying to get best players for arsenal...

    So just keep the faith

none of the teams around us have signed anyone yet except chelsea and they don't even have a manager ffs + look how roman's other signings turned out shevchenko & torres, well torres might turn it around.

tottenham are going to get vertonghen, but we've already signed podolski so apart from the circus going on at the bridge no one is really stealing a march regarding transfers.

they'll be more signings ready to go into the first team i think by the sounds of it but just not that many

Whilst im not panicking yet seeing how its only the beginning of June, what happened last summer transfer window cannot happen again. We were totally unprepared for the start of last season, just look at the starting lineups we had for the Newcastle, Liverpool and Man Utd matches last August. It almost derailed our season before it even began. In my mind last season was totally forgettable bar a couple of matches here and there. Fair enough we did brilliantly to come back and grab third place but we didnt compete (i.e look like winning) in any of the competitions that we were in last season.

This cannot happen for the season coming up, so I really hope that we will have all our signings completed before we kick off our first match in August.

We should be looking to push on and strengthen the squad

IMO, the Fab and Nasri transfers distracted you and sudddenly it looked like you were scrambling around trying to get players in.
I would just hope that Van Persie and Walcott dont do the same.

BTW - who of you wants to keep Yossi? Pretty sure he wont be coming back to the bridge

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,333 ✭✭✭bad2dabone

I'd be happy to keep yossi as a squad player, he put in some decent shifts for us.

What the hell do you mean it looked like? We signed about 5 players on the last day of the window. If that's not scrambled and last minute I don't know what is!

Exactly if chekski hadn't made those 2 big signings this early we wouldn't be as panicked.

Drogba's antics on the pitch are laughable and damaging to the game and his own team and reputation.

HOWEVER, don't mix this up with Drogba, the human being. The man is incredibly charitable and donates large chunks of his earnings to developing infrastructure liike hospitals back in the Ivory Coast. It's a true pity his on-field persona masks all his fantastic day to day work.

Absolutely - a wonderful human being - head and shoulders above your average premier league player.

Wenger will be doing TV and sponsorship work for the Euros.

But it's worth noting that Arsenal spend serious money on a worldwide scouting network and are working all year round at identifying transfer targets. Apparently Ronaldo was scouted by us 12 times, but United swooped after he had a stormer against them in a friendly or some rubbish tournament.

As for Park, well...... maybe it's better and healthier for us all not to think about it....

And Bebe was a revelation for United......
Some transfers just don't work out for one reason or another. Amazing that you're focusing on Park and not the brilliant transfers Wenger has made down through the years. No need to name them but there has been more great transfer than poor ones.

Remember I watched that Lisbon - United friendly on TV, Ronaldo destroyed them as an 18 year old. Regarding all our scouting, we had acutually agreed a 3.5 million deal with Lisbon but were gazumped by United, iirc it was one of the deals investigated by FIFA involving United

There you go. If we pick up another Fabregas/RVP/Vieira/Ljungberg (all under £4m) this summer, are we gonna slate them because they don't have the huge price tags of Arshavin/Hleb/Reyes etc?

Personally, I'd be happy if we bought one CM and kept RVP and Walcott.

    This would do nicely...

+1 I just don't think he's good enough. His 2 goals against the spuds he took well but he got lucky as his first touch/control almost let him down on both, and this seems to be a recurring theme with him. I'd be happy if we cashed in on him.

Walcott is on a par with Mata for goals and assists for last season. I suppose you'd want to get rid of him too if he were an Arsenal player ? Theo does frustrate from time to time, but what he gives the team outweighs his deficiencies. He would be very difficult, and expensive, to replace.

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,406 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

No way should they get rid of Walcott. He's a frustrating player, down right useless at times, but he helps give the team depth if we get a few good players in. He's capable of single handedly winning games on his day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,183 ✭✭✭UnknownSpecies

He seems to love the club too. Can't buy that and we need it.

I'd argue it's most of the time, really think fans are looking at him through rose tinted glasses. Freddie hadn't half the pace of Walcott and he'd regularly get beyond the defences, something Walcott should be doing every game not once every five games.
