Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

looking at a few of the 1997 models that are for sale.
Wonder has anyone any experience with them, the 110bhp models.
What are they like and what to look out for when looking at one?

    Thanks

Same chassis as the VW Passat sold from 1996-2005 so the same issues a lot of the time.

Front suspension ball joints wear out - parts kit to replace the whole lot is about €400-500 for decent stuff.

TDI engine is basically sound once it's been maintained properly - they don't tolerate poor maintenance well. The variable geometry turbo on the 110 bhp version you're looking at could be sooted up if the car's been driven too gently. Vacuum lines can rot out after a while: on a car this old they should hopefully have been replaced by now.

Expect the injector nozzles to be worn on a diesel that old. A new set will be a few hundred euro by the time they're fitted and tested.

The dual mass flywheel will almost certainly need to be replaced if it hasn't been already.

Same as the Bora you mean?

My 98 passat was way longer than our 97 A4.

The 97 A4 we had was a 110bhp TDI, great car.

No, same as the Passat. They just shortened it by 10 cm behind the front seats for the A4. It's called the B5 platform within the VW group.

Bora has transverse engine, Passat and A4 are longitudinal.
