I'm thinking of focusing on criteriums this year and have come up with a list from the CI calendar, are there any road races that should really be classed as criteriums that I've missed?

My list of crit's so far...

    Banbridge
    Eniskillen
    Galway
    Mullingar
    Blarney
    Dundrum
Balbriggan (assuming same course as 2011) and
    Louth Crit Champs

In each case, what is the approx lap distance?

Not sure what Cycling Ireland stipulate, but USA Cyclings 'Rulebook' states: "A criterium is a circuit race held on a small course entirely closed to traffic. The length of the course is between 800 m and 5 km." More than 5k is termed a 'circuit race'. At some greater distance (?) circuit race becomes 'road race'.

Glenamaddy, just remembered two more crits in the north, dates fro 2012 not set yet afaik.

The David MCall Criterium hosted by Maryland Wheelers (Lisburn Co. Antrim)

The Ards Town Centre Races (aka the Ards Crit) hosted by Ards CC (Newtownards, Co. Down)

Also are a series of circuit races hosted by North Down CC at Kirkistown Racing Circuit.

The enfield GP is similar to a crit - 8 laps of 6.4km.

Well, in my 'Rulebook' it'd be a small circuit closed to traffic with at least two corners (not bends). The Ormeau Park and Ulster grand prix seem to have only 1 corner.
Stephen Roche GP and Mullingar Town Center Crit would be good examples.

Anyone remember the Coca-Cola Grand Prix in Bray? About as different as you could find from the Stephen Roche GP. Probably defines the other crit extreme, distance-wise.

I remember John Sheehan crashing right in front of me. Pouring rain. Juniors allowed to race with Seniors. As long as we could hang on...
