I've never played an MMO before but the Star Trek licence and the fact that it has gone F2P had me interested. I've tried to find on the FAQ on the site to see if it supports OSX but I don't think it is.

    Can anyone confirm?

No, there's a Windows only client, but no OSX native one.

Well the plan is to get a new Mac during the year and setup bookcamp. I might try out STO then.

Try the WoW free trail now for a taste of a "traditional" MMO. It runs natively on OSX.

1-70 is free now if you sub, right?

You only have to buy wotlk and cata expansions

    *shrugs*

I was thinking of the free to level 20 Starter edition for getting a taste of the genre.

Once you activate your account as in apply a key or pay the 15 euro online to activate YES you get the Burning crusade free!

15 euro OR find an old copy of wow in some Bargain bin ( i found it in PCworld for 2 euro one day =] )

    That gives you

    • Activated Account
    • Vanilla wow
    • Burning crusade expansion
    • Level cap set to 70
    • 30 days free playtime

Then 12.99 a month if you want to keep playing or try out the starter edition.

If then you get past 70 you need to purchase the Lich king and cataclysm expansions.

I recommend checking your local game shop and seeing how much it is it tends to be cheaper in places than online.

Otherwise before you buy from blizzard check out
    http://www.g2play.net/store/

    For cheap keys

    or

    http://www.offgamers.com/

Ive purchased from both and found them excellent :D

Pssst to mods sorry for being offtopic

You do realise that Offgamers is and always was a gold selling site and g2play is run by criminals from Eastern Europe.
While some people have been fine purchasing from either, others have got stung badly in the past and neither are recognised as legit by Blizzard or any other games publisher for that matter. Was a thread a few months back on Rift's forums about people complaining of timecards they'd bought from G2play that turned out to be key generated and subsequently rejected by Trion.
Just a thought before you jump into bed with either.

I started playing yesterday and am thoroughly enjoying it, having trouble getting to grips with the skills thing though, I've doled out as much as I can, have left over points and the "skill up" notification on the top left hasnt dissappeared... Feel like I'm forgetting to upgrade something, doled out my skill points and for my bridge officers, am I missing something?

Can anyone help with that, or tell me where should I look to find out what skills to upgrade? I've just been upgrading ones which sound good which is a haphazard way of doing things, I went tactical career btw.

The skills have recently been reworked, so your best bet is probably the official forums.

If you're going tac, you're probably looking at flying an escort once you get your second ship (fast, maneuverable, bit of a glass cannon), or a cruiser (beam boat, more engineering, so better for tanking).

Once you get to level 7 you'll get your duty officers. These are the rank and file of the crew. You can send them off on little missions, which if they succeed will bring you in more xp, energy credits and dilithium (all of which are important).

If you have specific questions, ask away and I'll answer what I can.

played 30 hours of this since first spotting this thread - seems a decent time killer esp since I'm bore with my other games right now

i find the fastest way to skill up is to just patrol systems...kill everything u can and rince n repeat. does get a tad boring though.

Also that borg super weapon can hurt.

For anyone who is playing this and wants to level up quickly, this weekend is a European celebration where Q has arrived back on Earth Space Dock and is giving an XP bonus that last for 4 hours. Once your time is up, just head back and he'll give you another one. It lasts until Monday, I think.
