Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

spreading dung on beet ground.

    this is just a thought that came into my mind today. we grow about 7-10 acres of fodder beat every year. we always spread dung on it and plough it down the next day. we will be ploughing and setting in early april. If i spread the dung in march would it have lost all its value since it would be just lying on the ground for a month? is it better to do it as i am already and plough down straight away?

    Spread it now and give it some time to work into the soil before inverting, spreading later will mean it wont be as readily available when the plant needs it. Nutrient loss will be minimum with dense dung, PK will remain whatever, N will be lost but dont worry PK more important for beet.

    well it wont all be gone i hope until mid-the end of february. would it be better to spread it then so rather than in the start of april.

    I find as early as possible especially on fields that need it. You could also spread the artifical P and K now on the ground going for beet this year. IMV spread P and K into the seedbed will mean that when the beet needs it most early plant and root development, it may not be available. Spreading dung at 20t/ha on my beet ground tomorrow and also on grassland. nothing beats a good application of dung
