I know this isn't the music forum, but I posted here to get the average person's opinion, not necessarily people who are involved in music themselves, plus the opinion of AH is pretty much fact to be fair.

By Irish, I mean written and performed by someone Irish, not traditional Irish music.

As I leave behind Neidin, by Jimmy McCarthy, performed by Mary Black.

I think it's one of the loveliest songs in the Irish anthology of music. Whenever I hear it,it takes me back to rural Ireland, weddings, childhood, village pub bands... some of the nicest features of Irish life... but is also tinged with rather a sweet dolefulness, which only adds to its beauty. Can't find the clip,but it was also featured on that terribly sad episode of Reeling In The Years, with the young people boarding buses to go to the USA.

Oops you're right. It was an English couple, June and Phil Colclough. Could have sworn it was a Scotsman!

This is not a matter of opinion. Teenage Kicks is the greatest Irish song ever written. You might as well try to refute the theory of gravity as claim any other song deserves the crown.

I'm not a big fan of that type of music, but that song is nothing short of a masterpiece!

Anything by Jimmy MacCarthy is the best in Irish music, the best music overall.

Jimmy is larger than life, the best of his work is 10/10 and he knows exactly how to go about writing a good piece.
