One of the all time great racing drivers, not just in endurance, but in any category.

You don't get the nickname "Mr Le Mans" for just turning up.

    True great!!!
He'll be a hard act to follow up. Privileged to have seen him in action and on the top step at Le Mans.

I assume Audi will be gifting him at least one R18 B-)

Mark Webber remains in a Sao Paulo hospital following his heavy accident in the closing stage of Sunday’s FIA WEC season-ending Six Hours of Sao Paulo.

The ex-F1 star sustained bruising and a concussion in the high-speed crash, which was triggered by a suspected failure of some kind to his Porsche 919 Hybrid.

“I’m quite sore this morning and am pretty bruised and have got a stinking headache,” Webber said. “I’ve got no recollection of the accident or how it happened – the team is looking into the details to find out more.”

Webber was greeted in the hospital this morning by motorsport legend Emerson Fittipaldi, who served as the event’s promoter and also took part in Sunday’s race.

Fittipaldi also made a visit to 8Star Motorsports driver Matteo Cressoni, who was collected in the accident and spent the night in the hospital for observation as well.

While Webber remains in the hospital, the 38-year old Australian is expected to return home to the U.K. later this week.

“Thanks to the medical team at the track and here at the hospital who did a great job and are looking after me very well,” he said.

“On a positive note it’s great that the boys in car no. 14 managed to bring home the victory which is a fantastic way to finish off the season.

“I’m already looking forward to getting out there again next year.”

F*ck, seeing those it's no wonder he wasn't passed fit for the race, lucky to be alive judging by the cockpit damage!

I thought it was almost unheard of for racing drivers to do this kind of thing...seriously unprofessional.

IIRC, didn't Thomas Enge (formerly a Jordan/Minardi test driver) test positive for cocaine before?
