the new Craft Beer London app is a nice alternative to the CAMRA Good Beer Guide app. It lists off licences as well as pubs for beer geeks.

    Resurrecting this baby!

I was in The Earl of Camden recently. Nice open pub just a stroll from Camden station but a bit away from the bustle.

The Somers Town Coffee House is a little gem! On Chalton Street, not far from Euston station, this gastropub has a country feel to it. It has a great little beer garden out the back (will be coming back here in warm weather) and as well as a very tasty Sunday Roast, it offers British Tapas!

Hey! Yes! Been there! Great place! Only been there the once, when there was a street market or festival or something — 2-3 years ago? I cannot remember now what it was like inside, I just sat outside drinking in the atmosphere. I know that the Somers Town area once had a bad reputation, but it seemed fine to me.

Has anyone done the Beer Tasting at the Craft Beer Co. mentioned in earlier posts?

I've been meaning to check it out for the past while.

I've not done the tasting but I've been there a couple of times for a few pints. Very impressive draught selection - well worth a visit.

Howl at the Moon in Hoxton. Banging spot owned by an Irish fella and serving fantastic craft beers. Great pub altogether making quite a name for itself.

Heading over to London for a weekend, are there any good pubs (craft beer, good food, good music) in the Kensington area

    Cheers

Kensington is pretty big. What part? High Street? South? North?

    South Kensington

Tourist central - not a great deal around there to be honest. I'm struggling to think of a decent pub within about a mile of South Kensington station.

Not too far from South Kensington is the White Horse in Parsons Green or Cask in Pimlico.

The White Horse is about 2 miles west and Cask about 2 miles east of South Kensington.

    White Horse in Parsons Green
Ah, the Sloaney Pony - wouldn't be a big fan.
    Cask in Pimlico.
That, however, is a great spot.

The Swimmer off Holloway Road : http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/pubsandbars/swimmer-at-the-grafton-arms-userreview-11717.html gastro pub, great food, good selection of beers, off the beaten track.

I was in The Swimmer last week - a grand wee bolt hole. Good recommendation.

I like the Pineapple, which is nearby http://www.timeout.com/london/bars-and-pubs/pineapple

    Is this the same pineapple?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,252 ✭✭✭FTA69

No, The Pineapple is a famous pub by Camden Town.

My friend is a manager at The White Horse, he loves the place. Then again he's also a beer snob and a wannabe Chelsea trend merchant so I'd probably hate the f*cking place. It also gets overrun with lairy Chelsea fans every Sunday apparently.

Not every Sunday. I believe they've been a bit wary since this

That said, I'm not a weekend drinker - your mate would know best. Speaking of which - when I used to go, it was for the selection of beers. It really is worth a look - there's a menu and everything :D

I do like some of the Sam Smith's places I must say, from a beer, price and decoration point of view. The Glasshouse Stores in Soho and The Captain Kidd out in Wapping being good examples.

The beer selection was top notch the last time I was there, I must admit. But, it just doesn't feel very cosy or welcoming to me.

That and it tends to be full of knobs.

It's the nob element that would get me to be honest. A combination of rich twats and annoying hipsters. It sounds like a f*cking nightmare.

My favourite Sam Smith's is The Champion near Oxford Circus because of its very decorative windows — fantastic when the sun's shining.

I haven't been to London in two years, but the only pub I could ever recommend is the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ye_Olde_Cheshire_Cheese Small brewery beers, stouts and ales and delicious food to boot. Seriously dying to get back there. Just off Fleet Street so near a lot of touristy areas.

    Jaysus - I don't know about that.

Princess Louise would be my preferred Sam Smith's establishment - wonderfully ornate downstairs.

The price you have to pay for good beer :D

It is Parsons Green, after all.

How about the Great British Beer Festival, much more down to earth and usually a good laugh. And a serious variety of beers, ciders and perry from the UK and beyond.

It's back at Olympia again this year

I love the GBBF. There's also the London Craft Beer Festival on the same weekend this year.
