Are sparkles and fat frogs still around

Fat frogs got rebranded from a ice cream to an sugary alcopop. But children still love them.

Haven't seen a Freaky Foot in years.

AIWA. Once a very popular Hi-Fi and Walkman clone maker.

AIWA made great products very cheap. Sadly what killed them is that Sony saw them as their biggest rival at one stage and so bought them out fully. They had already held a share and killed the company off. Shame.

As for Kodak well I'm afraid they killed themselves. Read an article in the business post (yes I know, insert joke here) that chronicled their demise. In the 70's they actually invented the first mass producible digital camera however as they were making so much money from film that they held it back. By the time the digital camera revolution started they hadn't kept up their R&D on the digital front and found themselves years behind. When they eventually did get a camera out the technology was way behind the curve that it just killed them and nobody bought any Kodak products anymore.

    Long Wave Radio Atlantic 252

Hollywood Hayes, Dusty Rhodes and others, they had all the tunes
Everyone listened it though it has to be said the quality on LW wasn't the best

They'd annouce list of songs in advance and you'd get your tape recorder set to record off the radio.
No itunes, playlists or pirate bay back then I tell ya :pac:

Sadly this ended, it went to Talksport radio which was a disaster. I couldn't tell you what it is is now

My sister said pirate radio was broadcast off oil rigs since if you're in international waters then rules don't apply. I was madly impressed.

Then I discovered it was a station from rural Meath, the truth was a lot less interesting :(

Quite possibly an urban myth, but the story goes that married 'working girls' in Britain in the 50s/60s would put a box of that in the window when they were ready to accept punters for the day, the OMO standing for Old Man Out.

Didn't NASA jackets disappear quite quickly after the space NASA sued them? I don't think the claim that it stood for 'Nice And Safe Attitude' washed.

Does anyone remember manchester united brand crisps around 99, i think called 'red devils'?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 165 ✭✭Tombo2000

Havent seen Barry McGuigan crisps for a while.....they were tasty things.

On a more serious note; its been some years since I've spotted a packet of Rolo.

Have they been withdrawn? Would be a fuppin' outcry if they were, surely.

I am going to get one for old time sakes, I use to love putting them together, painting them, then eventually filling them with old lighter fuel and destroying them.

Nope, I'm eating a pack of them right now. Bought them in my local Topaz shop earlier.

    As for disappearing brands -

I can't remember the last time I saw Harp Lager in a pub south of the border? It used to be everywhere.

Heard a similar story but it was ORMO(Or Man is Out) bread, the guy telling the story was from Belfast.

    Breo

    A white/cream drink from Guinness

I never tried it, based on appearance I think it would have been nice.
Ok that might make no sense but I liked the colour and the marketing

Well it must have flopped as it didn't last long

It was like a Weiss beer. Wasn't bad actually, I'd say more people might drink it if it came out now, back then (was around '99) we weren't as open minded to new drinks in Ireland as we are now (not that we are much now judging by the beers on tap in 99% of pubs!).

Findus started making them smaller and smaller until they eventually disappeared.

Were they really as good as we remember them?

Decent cartoons, apparently they banned all our old favourites because they are seen as to violent.
So now you know why our generation is a bunch of thugs. But we can look forward to the next generation of angels because they never witnessed cartoon violence.

    Bebo :)

Its still online. Kinda funny you can stalk look up friends on it by looking at their facebook page, getting their email address and plugging it into the Bebo search function. In most cases their profile will still be there from 2007 or thereabouts, perfectly preserved.
