Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Suggestions?

I'm thinking a general style guide, like what colours/fabrics to mix with others, accessorizing etc. Preferably with pictures and preferably aimed at normal folks rather than those that only buy expensive designer gear.

I've found a few things through googling, but there's not much that I would say has been particularly inspiring.

Anyone got anything they would recommend?

Have you tried reading men's magazine's like GQ, Esquire etc?

Colin McDowell is a popular, established fashion journalist and historian.

A lot depends on the look you want to cultivate, perhaps when you've established that, then you can refine your search and seek out certain authors and men of fashion to inspire you.

    AskMen.com Style Bible
    http://ie.askmen.com/products/books/the_style_bible/

It's a very well put together resource containing everything from what basic staples every man's wardrobe should have, how to find the right fit shirt/jacket/pants to things like dressing for your shape(crucial), grooming and more.

You can buy it in hardback or I think it's available online in PDF format for free.

Otherwise reading esquire and gq is pretty good also. Esquire had an interesting article recently about refreshing your wardrobe effectively on a $1,000 budget that turned out very well, could be worth a read.

Wow - excellent - thanks everyone! I've got some reading to do!

Edit: Extra special big up to baby and crumble - that www.fashionbeans.com is exactly what I meant! The Men's Fashion Basics articles is exactly what I needed!
Edit again - wow! all those resources are great - thanks folks!

    I'd suggest Mr.Porter

Not only are they an e-tailer (albeit a very expensive one at that). If you're looking for simple clothes, with simple colours and lots to match them with, that site is great.

It also has lots of features and is effectively also an e-magazine which has video posts, featured items and different trends or style (businessman, naval, autumn coats) etc...

It's presented in a very grown-up, man's man type way, which can be a breath of fresh air with all the "hipster" type fashion websites these days offering their own brand of style advice
