    keeps cutting out and saying re connect,is this a common problem?

    Not common but does happen. Make sure the gold connectors are clean at the back of the battery and can make a decent connection to the controller's contacts, which might be dirty or slightly off-line.

    Alternatively, make sure the battery is surely clipped into place.

    How old is the battery? They only have a limited life span but if allowed to be properly charged up and always ran empty before recharging you can get years out of them.

    I use a dual desktop charger and always have one on charge/standby waiting for the one in the controller to switch itself off.

    I can't remember the last time I bought a battery... must be four or five years ago.
