Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Open wifi in a resteraunt

    Hello,

I'm just looking for a bit of advice. My father in law has a restaurant / deli in the west of Ireland, he wants to offer free WiFi to his customers, at the moment his customers have to ask for the password.

I think he's with Eircom at the moment, I know I open up the Wifi with no issues and set the filtering to be strict.

But is there anything else I can do to prevent people looking stuff they shouldn't be looking at.

I'm going down tomorrow to sort it out. I'm not interested in setting up proxy servers or anything like that as this will require support and as I'm based in Dublin, its just not practical.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Regards,
    Stephen

You can get wifi routers specifically for public or business wifi they have specialised features to stop abuse. Netgear do a range of them.

Change the DNS server on the router to the Norton DNS Virus+porn filter.

Well to fully protect your own "network" from users\devices attached you could attach an access point via a firewall with a DMZ set up on one of the ports.

So essentially you have the firewall linking between the LAN and the Access Point. You'd need to manually configure a port on the firewall to a certain DMZ range eg 192.168.200.x instead of the 192.168.1.x of the Eircom network.

So each device that connects would be given the 200 subnet.

    EG this firewall.
