I am trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 on a Dell Poweredge R310.

When i try to install the programme I get the following message

a cd dvd drive device driver is missing

and the process wont let me go any further.

I am confused because I thought the machine can read the CD so it does not seem like there is a problem with the CD drive.

I tried installing Windows 7 but the same thing happened.

Any searches online just bring up Windows 7 information I tried installing from a burned DVD but still the same thing.

Thanks in advance for any help

Yep, you'd see this with linux distros occasionally also.

An install from USB key would be one troubleshooting option.

    Hi,

Are you trying to install the Server 2008 R2 from a CD or from a DVD !?

Have you been prompted to install drivers ? It looks that is a issue with controller not been recognoised by the setup ! Can you download the drivers on to a USB media and install them manually !?

Also, sometime happened to me when used the x32 media on x64 hware or viceversa with Win7!

According to DELL the hardware will take Server 2008 R2 !!
