An apartment building on North Quay (opposite galley) is on fire and half the town has been evacuated.

    Stay away from the town.

You could have added a few sirens or something. :D

Rumour has it that it started in an apartment belonging to a non-Irish guy where his oven went on fire .

He quickly left the building .

    - A well managed evacuation system fell into place .

They've been fully occupied for the last while - 15 or 16 units apparently

Was watching RTE news at 9pm about the Fin Whales off Hook Head and noticed big smoke to the left of The Hook on the RTE still pic, I guess this must have been this fire?

What ive been told by the other people living there is he actually had a cannabis plantation growing in his loft as he was the highest floor and had some sort of heat lamps which caused the fire to start and he didnt know until it had gone way past the point of which he would of been capable of extinguishing it

more likely to have been the Greeat island power plant chimneys smoke than the fire.

And the apartments were joint owned with 2 men, one of whom is still very much alive after the unfortunate passing of the other man there a couple of years ago.

I thought after Mick O Donnell died the bank took them over but it seems Peacocks still have them. I heard these apartments have been rented out to the council but I dont know if thats true

The whole development was put up sale by the bank after Mick died - Sherry Fitzgerald Radford were handling the sale and Peacock bought the whole place. He was recently refused planning permission for a casino in one of the commercial units under the apartments.

I heard that on the 10am news but have heard no more about it since so I imagine it was only a small fire

Any Idea which building it was?

  • Registered Users Posts: 214 ✭✭germanator

it was jimmy allens chipper, there was a gas leak and a small explosion which was contained to the store room and rear of the building, it was brought under control in under an hour and a half!!

Ragarding the fire in the flats there are 2 foreign nationals who have been arrested yesterday for questioning in regards to cultivating cannibis plants from seed and this is the cause of the fire
