Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dangerous driving by Traffic Police, Warsaw, Poland, yesterday.

Female cop's driver's licence taken off now, she'll face both internal investigation as well as court appearance.

This is such a stupid system.

Once I get the green arrow I immediately start watching the barrier and its red & green light as there is often a considerable delay between the arrow and barrier.

I think one of the 2/3 cars following behind me was too close effectively cancelling my green arrow and causing the barrier not to rise.

It doesn't excuse the fact that this system is dangerous.
There is a high potential of a pileup occurring or of striking the barrier if not paying attention.

I've struck the barrier (toll error not mine, barrier dropped as I was just getting to the gate, not following any other car*) :pac: ... right in the middle of the wind-shield, not that big a deal really, it just bounced off..

The system is flawed yes, but most of the time the problem is not the system but the users, cars follow too close behind or going too fast and just parking at the barrier (which I personally think is stupid behaviour - the barrier didn't work, go left and use the normal toll gate, it'll read the card the same way)

I've often gotten through a toll booth faster by using the regular toll gate.

i'm no expert on these things, but doesn't the red light coming on with the orange keep left arrow mean there's a problem and you should divert to the normal gate? How fast were you going? looked fairly rapid to me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,061 ✭✭✭gutteruu

M8 toll did this for me before and I think it was because I was going too fast. In case anyone from the NRA is reading......the M4 kinnegad toll is dangerously slow to open aswell so I just go to the normal gate. Limerick tunnel toll seems to works 50% of the time and you have to crawl through for it to work. M1 toll 'sometimes' has 2 barriers, one after the other which is pointlessly dangerous as people don't expect it.

I use the M4 regularly. I think it has slowed down but you're warned by the flashing speedo if you're going too fast, go through at 50 and there's no issues.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,733 ✭✭✭✭corktina

looked at it again...there was a keep left symbol up on approach and this turned into a 50 km/h sign and the green arrow went to a keep left arrow.... some problem there alright.... I'm guessing you need to watch the signs and do as they tell you

Yes, the red X and arrow would mean divert to the regular lane, but I had already been given the green arrow and by the time the red and orange came on I was focusing on the gate and didn't notice them come back on.

Also, it looks faster on camera.

Need to slow down and take stock of the signs around you I think

Done that, still had the barrier decide not to rise the odd occasion.

I remember when the road first opened the barrier was on steroids/viagra, it would rise in less than a second!

    I have no idea...

But then maybe it's part of a nefarious scheme to deceive the boards.ies and implicate the NRA in a road safety scandal.

not a chance if you'd seen the motors here that I have! :D

everything from mint 60's american muscle cars (seen loads of mustangs, which are a particular favourite of mine) to monster 4x4's (another thing i really like a lot) and everything in between, most of which have HUGE engines. :)

that and the sunshine, clear blue seas, great standard of living, low crime, family centred outdoor living and pretty much everyone being very friendly, you can easily live with a spider/snake etc. or two, which do (for the most part) keep out of the way of people. :)

the driving IS pretty bad though, it's got to be said, definitely worse than irish drivers! :pac:

The M8 express lanes are a joke. I've had this happen several times where the barrier didn't raise. I complained to the booth operators on more than one occasion and they said they're aware there is a problem...yet nothing is done about it. Also, the arrow was green and changed to red x just when he was about to pass under. These traffic lights and arrows seem to be a lucky dip on that toll plaza.

no point complaining to the booth operators, what do they care?

Is that your attitude in your own job, what do I care? Who do you think is in a better position to get the problem fixed, them or me? Next time I'll be sure to ask to speak to their manager

I asked them to investigate why the barrier didn't rise, they took some details so I guess I will see soon enough.

Some people think its speed, but I think its something else really so hopefully they provide details anyway.

I doubt it, travel that way frequently and it's the only toll in the country my eazypass doesn't work on, often with last second changes of mind as per the video, I've complained a few times and been told to mount the module somewhere else; made no difference whatsoever, there's something inherently wrong with their system there IMO.

yes,you need to speak to a Manager yourself. They wont necessarily do it.

I dont think all the cars behind would like someone stopping at a booth asking for a manager and waiting for the manager to come from another booth

My OH had serious issues with her barcode when she first received it, everyday a mishap from barrier down to red arrow. Swapped our "scanners" as I don't use mine as frequent, not an issue since. That's 3 years ago though.

If it meant my issues with their system getting resolved, they could be queued all the way back to Dunkettle afaic. Strange attitude:-(

Grand, I'll remember that one next time. Hopefully the manager is not on the other carriageway as it would take quite a while for them to get across. I'm sure the cars behind won't mind at all...

Issue's with your barcode everyday and rather than trying to get it fixed/new one you'd stop at a toll and ask for the manager to come and "let traffic be queued back to Dunkettle afaic" and I've a strange attitude?

My point was that he reported it to the toll booth operator, that's all that could have been done or resolved there.

    Didn't come across that way.

Read my post again, I had no issues with my barcode.

I emailed my complaint to info@directroute.ie and received a response asking for more details the next day.

I wouldn't bother contacting someone at the toll gate as I would rather have an email chain so I know the issue is going to the proper channels.
I'd suggest if anyone else has similar problems that they do the same.

The barcode is not used by the Rf scanners. Get it nice and warm when your ready to use it, and hold it out the window.

    http://www.independent.ie/world-news/europe/video-road-rage-driver-slams-on-brakes-in-front-of-moving-lorry-30877934.html

Police have released a horrifying video of the moment an enraged driver slammed his brakes on in front of a moving lorry.

The heart stopping video shows a blue Citroën swerving and braking in front of the lorry which was traveling at 60mph, before speeding off just inches from the HGV

He was ordered to carry out 100hours of unpaid work, handed a 12 month driving ban and left with £145 bill for court costs. He must also retake his driving test.

    very obvious problem.

there is a height restriction barrier just in front of sensor/reader so its range is limited that along with having to lookup the database that the tag is active and in credit takes time. but there is no valid reason it can't be barrier free like M50 and there is

That dashcam is in a truck by the looks of it. Could be the lorry driver never saw the BMW up ahead til he had the first overtake completed and wrongly committed or was committed into( due to speed)the second one.

Not defending him just trying to understand it.
