Not paleontology, but a famous extinct animal so...

It seems that pugmarks and scat that may belong to tigers have been found in a certain Javan National Park. Some are convinced that the Javan tiger may still exist in small numbers there, and camera traps are to be installed to find out.
Sounds like good news, although I can´t help but to think that, if they are really there, those tigers are probably safer if no one knows about them :(

An interesting and little known fact; in Java, it is believed that the extermination of the Javan tiger resulted in a curse for the whole of Indonesia. When the last confirmed pair was killed, a series of catastrophes, accidents and deaths of notorious Indonesians was seen as karma for exterminating this- often seen as sacred- creature from the island.

Wasn't the Javan Tiger the "small" one? (comparatively)

Anyway if it still lives it will grabbed and "saved" in zoos and shot for it's medicinal uses in Oriental medicine and wiped out a second time.

Yea they were smaller than the Tigers from mainland asia but they were bigger than the Bali Tiger, which is also extinct.

I hope that they dont find it to be honest. They are better off as long as people see them as myths.

There have been sightings of the creature for a while- the rumor that it still existed never really died out.

Wow you are a bunch of pessimists aren´t you? :(

    We're Irish. :P

For my part, I think it'd be great if it was still extant, the west javan mountains are pretty extensive so there should be a good few places to hide out.
