i like to use some veggies.!

peas, lettuce , brussel sprouts , cucumber,

    also shel fish. boiled rice.

im also breeding some white worms at the mo. earthworms

i once read about useing some boiled egg yolks for fry.

It depends what your fish are.
Whiteworms are good, but feed them sparingly, once a week say,as they are very fatty. Earthworms are keenly taken by a lot of species. As soon as I put them,or erthworm flakes and pellets,in the tank, the fish go bonkers, particularly corys. Havn't tried rice, and probably wouldn't. Peas, and most green veg are taken, especially by various plecs.

I feed mine a lot of different types of food including, flake, pellets, frozen shrimp, krill and blood worm occasionally.

When I used to have lots of different plecos, they got fresh cucumber, lettuce and courgette.

Pellets for the betta, soaked goldfish sticks for the goldfish, and soaked flakes for the tetras and gouramis. I've seen some midge larvae in the tanks too, so I reckon those are getting eaten as well.

pellets, granules, flakes, the odd bit of bloodworm.

Used to have a bin swarming with daphnia and feed them every now and again, but it got so manky that i couldnt really put the water in my tank so i just let it go....

Only problem was algae in the bin, i prob should have covered it or sth

im impressed by the amount of non-flake/pellet foods. are there any bad stories though of fish not going near the food and you having to take it back out with a net.....cos thats what happened with me last time I tried it with something 'different'!

sure theres always going to be a risk of the food not been taking right away.
if you put in a lot of new food and its not eatn, u will have to remove it. same as flake food.

i tried some ham today, my angles and cribs went made for it,

i guess its down to trail and error. if u try it in very small portions there wont be much risk to the tank if the foods not eatn.

when im tryn new foods, i feed a smaller portion of flake food, then add a little bit of my new food that i wana test.

I'd be cautious of some food you guys are giving your fish. Just because they eat it doesn't mean it's not harmful. Processed food has all sorts of ingredients that aren't meant for fish. If anything, try keep it natural.

The goldies get Hikari pellets, brine shrimp, bloodworm, daphnia, spinach, peas, algae mix, spirulina, seaweed etc

The shrimps get shrimp food, shrimp treats, the odd pea, daphnia, boiled carrot etc

The kribs get daph, bloodworm, brine shrimp, cichlid pellets etc

The rasboras get tetra min baby food and daphnia.

The snail tank gets lettuce, cucumber, spinach, algae wafers etc.

So a lot of home made and some specific fish food.

I'd be wary of feeding them anything that they shouldn't really be eating, I keep thinking of that oscar that got addicted to kitkats and wouldn't eat anything else.

    Can you feed Discuss peas?

And if so,what type of pea?

    fresh,processed,cooked or uncooked,or frozen??

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 16,696 Mod ✭✭✭✭Silverfish

Pretty sure you can, they're a laxative for fish so really should be fed sparingly, I feed them once every two weeks / once a month just to keep things regular!

Fresh or frozen garden peas, boiled until softish, take the skin off, squeeze it a bit and drop it in. Don't use canned or processed peas, too much salt / sugar.
Then prepare for bright green poo.

Oh yeah, and it wasn't an oscar, it was a giant gourami.

Also a guy I know rescued a sick betta there a while back.
Asked the owner what they'd been feeding it, and they said '...um.... biscuits'.
