I was watching the Veronica Guerin and it said.
"Everyone in the Republic of Ireland remembers where they were when they heard that Veronica Guerin had been murdered on the Naas Road"
So who here remembers what they were doing when there heard it?

I think I was getting something to eat and saw the headline on a newspaper that was left on the kitchen table. I had no idea who she was.

On the way home from work in a drug treatment service. Her very unfortunate death meant the prob was finally resourced somewhat adequately...........until recently and politicians began to fluc up funding big time

On the Naas rd about 12 miles away cursing the traffic jam . Felt terrible when I heard on the radio that it was because somebody had been shot dead.

It happened on a Wednesday in the evening of the 25th June 1996.

At the time it happened it was the last week before the summer holidays and my last week in primary school. I was probably out playing football at the time.

I was in San Fran on my J1, having the time of my life. One of my mates was really shocked by the whole thing, but I didn't even know who VG was, not being an avid reader of the Sindo. That Michelle one had just won all her medals in the Olympics. Trainspotting had just come out. It was actually a fantastic summer.

I was in the sitting room with my mum who was doing the ironing. We were getting the kitchen tiled and I was watching the tv. One of the tilers came in to tell us a woman had been shot, and then the other shouted in that it was just announced it was Veronica Guerin. I'll always remember that day, the tiles in the kitchen are still there and remind me of the news.

In work we all instantly knew it was major and were all appalled.

For a while after I really thought it was a game changing crime for the scumbags, but its now over 15 years since this crime and nothing has changed. The crims still run amok.

I don't. Nor do I care. All I remember is getting sick to death of journalists going ON and ON about this.

Only reason there was such a big deal about V.G. is because media people were writing about a media colleague. If she had been a Garda it would have been a different story.
