There are clubs around if there's something you have an interest in see if there's a local group of people getting together about it. I keep meaning to look for a Galway club that does photography and or filming. I'm pretty sure they''re there I just haven't had the time to look. Your not really that far from Galway with the M6 there, I think they do boards meetups there as well.

the only other way about it would be to go up to strangers asking them if they'll be your friend.

Well your going to have to change that if you want to make friends, it's simple really. Just have a think about something you would like to do, it could be anything from knitting to windsurfing there are certainly groups that do both in Galway. While you may think I wouldn't go doing either of those the likes of knitting may be a easier group to get the hang of socialising with. Knitting is just an example you can probably think of something better, even if it was just some home improvement class/group for women, I'm certain you can find something seeing as your so close to Galway you just have to get over the fear and get out there.

The only way you'll get better at socialising is to socialise.

Do you drive ? If not then you may be a bit restricted getting to & from Galway especially in the evenings. How about friends at work or college etc ? You need to try & be positive. Maybe this move is an opportunity to get involved in something that you have always wanted to do. If you find something then maybe there will be others from your area that will help you get introduced.

    Forget about making friends.

Just find some things you want to do (photography, sport, music, whatever) and join a club to do with that. Be eager and to go whatever activities are on. Even better, do two or three different activities, so you have a range of options.

You'll have a bunch of new mates to hang out with in no time.

Friends like you have from school etc will take a lot longer, and are something you cannot rush.

If you've any interest in first aid/rescue then Loughrea Civil Defence meet every Wednesday night in the Temperance hall at 8pm. Now I'll be honest and say that they might be full up at the moment (I know the Galway city and the Ballinasloe units are) but it might be worth your while popping down to talk to them and see about joining if that's your thing. They have a great YOUNG team down there.

There's a dance aerobics class in the temperance hall at 7.30 on a Tuesday night that gets over 50 attendees, should be a good place to socialise, good mix of locals and people from elsewhere from what I hear.
