    Hello All,
    A Superbowl party will be held in the Arlington Dame St. (Lord Edward St. technically). Things get going at 9pm and the bar will be open until the last play of the game. Plenty of room with the game on the big screen with great sitelines throughout the venue. Tickets are €20 and include one pint or drink and a €5 square. The rest of the proceeds benefit Democrats Abroad Ireland in their efforts to get the 100,000+ US citizens in Ireland to participate in the 2012 US election. All are welcome, but tickets must be purchased by a US citizen. Rooms are also available at the Arlington at a discounted rate with a late check out! Tickets may be purchased via the link below. See you there!

    So if your Irish or Republican dont turn up at the door?

    All are more than welcome! Democrats Abroad simply has to follow US election law in that only US citizens may contribute to the organization, hence the requirement that an American purchase any ticket(s). A great crowd will be on hand, but won't be over capacity like some other venues. Plenty of Irish nationals will be in attendance and tickets will be at the door subject to capacity, but again, must be purchased by an American. More than a few Republicans will be along as well- it's a superbowl party, not a political rally. They just want a comfortable place to watch the game and don't mind if a bit of the entry goes to the other party's get out the vote activities.

    I dont mean to make your thread political but technically thats illegal aswell according to the FEC.

    Makes much more sense for it to be categorised as a non election fundraising event and therefore open to all.
    Assisting Foreign National Contributions or Donations

    Under Commission regulations it is unlawful to knowingly provide substantial assistance to foreign nationals making contributions or donations in connection with any U.S. election. 11 CFR 110.20(h). "Substantial assistance" refers to active involvement in the solicitation, making, receipt or acceptance of a foreign national contribution or donation with the intent of facilitating the successful completion of the transaction. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to individuals who act as conduits or intermediaries. 67 FR 69945-6

    Soliciting, Accepting, or Receiving Contributions and Donations from Foreign Nationals

    As noted earlier, the Act prohibits knowingly soliciting, accepting or receiving contributions or donations from foreign nationals. In this context, "knowingly" means that a person:
    • Has actual knowledge that the funds solicited, accepted, or received are from a foreign national;
    • Is aware of facts that would lead a reasonable person to believe that the funds solicited, accepted, or received are likely to be from a foreign national;
    • Is aware of facts that would lead a reasonable person to inquire whether the source of the funds solicited, accepted or received is a foreign national.
      11 CFR 110.20(a)(4)(i), (ii) and (iii).

    Exactly! Thank you for citing the statute which we are abiding by. Exactly why purchases must be made by Americans. No foreign contributions will be accepted. It is not a non election fundraising event, which has been pointed out already. We are obviously not soliciting, accepting, or receiving such funds. Americans who purchase tickets are free to give them to anyone they like, as all are welcome.

    OP, are you an American Citizen? And as such, will you purchase a ticket for anyone on this board who wishes to attend this event?

    Aye, I am an American. I'm just buying a ticket for my girlfriend: as a Browns fan she deserves all sympathy she can get. Should be a great night.
