Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dialler possible without GSM or PSTN line

    Hi,
Appologies if asked before, but I can't seem to find if this has being asked. I am looking into getting a new alarm installed and like the idea of having a text dialler. My problem is, the mobile phone reception is terrible in my house so a GSM dialer is a no go for me. Also my area is at the end of the line from the phone exchange for broadband, so no broadband. So I can't really justify getting a landline for the alarm system on its own.

I was thinking of getting wifi broadband into the house and most companies offer a phone service with their broadband. So my question is can an alarm system be configured with an Internet connection or one of these Internet phone services that these providers supply? Thanks in advancee,
    Poco

Once the broadband modem provides an analouge line out that will work with a nomal phone (Like UPC) then you could use a voice dialler, but not text.

Thanks for the quick response Koolkid. UPC isn't in my area but I'll ask what ever provider I go with if the phone output on the modem is analogue.

Be careful. A lot of them don't know or understand the difference. For example Eircom will swear blind a UPC line can't monitor an alarm. Basically if you can plug in a standard phone & make a call then an alarm voice dialler will work.
Ask them in a very simple term.. Can I use my existing home phone?

Just to update. Failed my site test for wireless broadband so might have to bite the bullet and get a land line after all.
