Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Electric fencing

Hoping for a bit of advice on the following problem:

I've recently been able to rent a 5 acre field that's about 300-500 metres from the nearest electricity source (house).

I want to operate a mains electric fence on it as the boundaries aren't well fenced.

Any advice on the best way to do this? For example, is it possible to run an insulated electric cable to the site over that distance (I have indirect access through my own fields which are not electrically fenced)? What would the cost of that be?

would you be better off running a row of fence wire across your fields to get to that field and then do polywire or tape around the bounds. You can just roll it up and store it if you lose the field later.

If there is a farm road to cross then 15 feet of insulated cable across that would carry the current no bother. Across a public road though can be difficult

    2 options in my eyes.

1, which i do myself. . if a field is 400 meters from the source (fencer) (electricity). then as straight and direct as you can, run a fence from there, straight to the field, then around the feild and bobs ur uncle. I do this as 1, its cheaper than underground cable, and 2, it cuts down on whats live, assuming ur not keeping the fence live for the neighbours cattle, if u know what i mean. and by doing this u have less fence to maintain at a certain time growth wise. eg. no point in maintaining a 7 acre fence to ensure the next field at 8 arces is live. thats 15 acre fence to maintain in June .
take the direct fence linking house and field up when u wish . use polywire and a real, and easy on insulators. . .just slip the wire off. bingo

    2. as u said, dear though, run an under ground cable, but ud want to look in to the loss element, u dont want to do this and all u have is 1000 v the other side
