    Hi all,

I, for one, am completely ticked off at having to watch my data usage and worry about getting big bills for data usage.

I want the option for Meteor to just cut off my data if I go over.

    You too ?

If you're a member of the Meteor forums you can add your voice

    http://forums.meteor.ie/t5/Bright-Ideas/Offer-people-the-choice-to-have-their-data-cut-off-when-their/idi-p/24071

And no sermons from sanctimonious boards.ies or links to how to check your usage please - I just want to have the option of not having to worry about big bills for data usage.

    Thanks

the attitude in the OP put me off bothering clicking on the link anyway.

That would cost more to the OP. I agree there should be an option to stop you going over your data limit. It isn't hard to implement, however meteor make more money if it isn't implemented.

Get a plan that gives you enough internet. What you could also do and i'm not sure if meteor do it is get them to reduce your credit limit, so you can only go maybe €20 over your monthly commitment. 3 do it and i've a cap on my account, just in case phone gets stolen or anything like that.

    Any Relation? :)

There's a great app that counts your data usage for you. You can set a data limit and it tells you when you are close. I think its called "netcounter". I used to use it a lot before but now I have more data so I don't need it..

I live in the sticks - mobile broadband is my only option for my home.

Only Meteor gives a decent signal where I live unfortunately.
They do 20 GB on the 12 months plan (30 on the 18 month).

(I know 3 have an AYCE plan but that has a 15 GB limit)

Data counter apps are useful but I use multiple devices via a 3G to wifi router.

Apologies if I put anyone off by my tone but I'm currently trying to swallow a large bill.

I'm hoping if Meteor start this then other operators will follow.
I know they make money off it but it's an unpleasant way to do it.

Did you hammer the price down with them, porno kid I linked to above knocked nearly €1200 of his meteor bill for data.

I've pushed, pulled and prodded but they haven't seen fit
    to cap the bill.

Can only imagine this type of thing is going to become a lot more common with
    Netflix's arrival.

Fair play to you for taking on Meteor over the lack of information they provide to customers about data usage. Well done sir.

Whats wrong with the 18 month plan with Meteor with 30 GB?

Could you go with the prepay plan if you are really worried about big bills?

Also, do what DrunkMoney suggested, phone Meteor and negotiate a lower bill. Dont accept no for an answer.

May go on the 30 GB plan if my credit isn't shot now, PAYG is a joke at 7.5 GB for 20 quid.

    Trust me, I've been trying.
They did mention the "external collection" agency in the last call - didn't like that.

AFIAK, if it is a Mobile Broadband device and have the software intalled on your Laptop/PC they send an SMS to the SIM in the device at 80 & 100% usage.

I stopped using mine last year but have you checked the SMS inbox on the device?

Thanks for the tip but it's not applicable in my case as I use it
    from a 3G router.
I'm not saying its impossible to check, just that we should
have the option to not check or worry about it (provided we're happy with
being cut off when our allowance is up)

They cut you off with pay as you go even though you might be in credit for a day allowance so why not billpay, suit's them of course.
