Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How would a lad go about BVD testing a bull (other than a calf?)

Can you get the tag yourself if it's not for this year's calves??

i think u could get your vet to take a blood sample from the bull and send it off, i think it takes a few weeks to come back

Are you sure? I have to get him blood tested anyway before sale (same as a cow or heifer). Great if I don't have to mess with getting tags etc.

    Anyone able to confirm? Thanks

Thanks Greysides. How long approx does it take to get results back? I want to leave it as near to the sale date as possible so it gives me more options to sell him after if I don't sell him on the day.

    Thanks ;)

Muckit, that would depend on the lab it was sent to. It may even depend on the type of test done (ELISA v. PCR). At one time the State labs needed to get a group of samples together to fill a test kit before samples were tested and so time was variable.
I'd get your vet to check with one of the private laboratories they use about their turn around times.
From the Irish Equine Centre I'd guess in the region of a week but I would check nonetheless. I found them obliging.

You can get a management tag from another tag supplier like Celtic Diagnostics I saw an ad in today's Farmers Journal
