Doesn't matter. It's a public place, and if you turn up wearing f***ing pyjamas, it shows that you're either not interested in finding work, or you have a few screws loose.

There were a load of lads wearing suits shirts and ties bankrupt the country, a far worse thing; the worst thing to happen to Ireland in my lifetime. Any dislike directed towards sportswear or leisure wear seems to be in the ha'penny place after that.

There is no law requiring a dress code to sign on, nor is there one to collect your benefit. as there is no dress code to pay your tax or social insurance.

I met a woman in Revenue, in a revenue office, once who probably hadn't washed herself in a month and had eye shadow on her eyelids and also above her eyebrows...

When I was in a dept of foreign affairs office last, the man dealing with me was wearing a north american sports jersey

Just because you're wearing something at a social welfare office doesn't mean anything regarding job seeking, as you can hardly look fro a job there while wasting the hours of your life queueing to sign your name.

A few posters reckoned cutting social welfare payments after some time, the pensioners will love that.

A lot of the people have very little experience with the social welfare system, it shows.

I'm talking about something simple: common sense.

The people who work in the office deserve to work in a professional enviroment imo. I could think of nothing more depressing than dedicating yourself to serving people who don't have enough respect for you to get dressed first.

I would bother to dress up in this situation because

I have self worth and self respect
I have respect for those that work in the dole office
If on the way to or from the dole office I meet someone I know that has a bit of work going, they do not think that I am a total slob and may offer me some work

If I local employers see me slobbing around in town in my pyjamas in the middle of the day, I would not expect them to offer me a job - I would expect them to think I am mentally incapacitated and unfit for work

You are not just going to the dole office
