He lived with his mother until he was 30, then went a roaming with 11 male friends until captured and sadistically put to death without a whimper of protest. Is it just me or does anyone else think Jesus was a submissive gay?

2 different surveys showed that half ( 48% and 50% ) of Roman Catholic Priests are homosexual, but I suppose no great surprise there.

No your wrong actually. There has been no mention whatsoever that he was gay in the teachings of the bible (oh I forgot your a complete athiest so what would you know about it)

Yes in fact there was a popular story of Jesus (popular in Persia) about the account of Jesus healing the sick man. In this version as there are many versions of his stories (even in the Bible) there are definite homosexual undertones.

Of course this story was omitted from the Bible. Probably got lost in the post.

    So well done...

Jesus was a lover; not a fighter.

As a stranger to domestics he will have to somehow find it within himself to fight for this love.

So, they omitted a story from the Bible because it has homosexual 'undertones' even though the version in the Bible has homosexual undertones?

What undertones are they, by the way?

Father Donald Cozzens, an author, psychologist, and Catholic seminary president says that there is such a high percentage of gay priests in the church that he is concerned that 'the priesthood is or is becoming a gay profession.' 5 In his book, "The Changing Face of the Priesthood," -- published in the year 2000 -- he estimates that 50% of Roman Catholic priests have a homosexual orientation.

A NBC report on chastity and the clergy found that "anywhere from 23 percent to 58 percent" of the Catholic clergy have a homosexual orientation. 7

Now, far be it for me to step in defending the Catholic Church, but you have the grand total of one meagre survey to back up your claims. The rest is merely speculation and estimation - hardly definitive proof.

Also I think you had another survey up before your edit, which showed 15% gay priests (+8% bisexual IIRC), tiny bit of a discrepancy between that and 45%.

Bottom line: I'm sure there is gay priests, but lets try not quoting (easily skewed) sensationalist survey data.

The church keeps many secrets, the church has assassinated whistle-blowers in the past, there is no reason to suspect that definitive proof will be provided.

I could tell you a story concerning three dead popes and the Irish connection, but you wouldn't believe me. And in 50 years when the history is written, contemporaries won't believe it either.

See (your post, which I was quoting) below. You say there was a story (popular in Persia) about Jesus healing the sick man, and that there are many stories (including in the bible) that have sexual undertones.

    I'm asking two questions.

Firstly, what are the sexual undertones, as I am unfamiliar with the particular story you're referring to.

Secondly, if you're implying that the story in the bible has sexual undertones you also seem to be suggesting that it was inevitable that they left out the popular Persian story, because of the same sexual undertones. I'm confused about this.

Author and sociologist James G. Wolfe estimated that 48.5% of priests were gay.

Alot of estimates there man :)
We all know there are homosexual priests. But 48.5% this and 23 to 58 percent that :pac:

estimates estimates estimates = those people have no clue as to how many are homosexual.

    Nope, gigino.

"Author and sociologist James G. Wolfe estimated ..." is just a guy taking an educated guess. He might be right, he might be wrong, but it's not a survey or any kind of scientifically proven evidence.

"Father Donald Cozzens, an author, psychologist, and Catholic seminary president ... estimates that 50% of Roman Catholic priests have a homosexual orientation" is the same. For that matter, how do we know that he didn't just latch on to Wolfe's figure?

"A NBC report on chastity and the clergy found that "anywhere from 23 percent to 58 percent". Wow. That's so broad it's *obviously* based on sound scientific evidence, especially from an irrefutable source like NBC!! >.<

"Author and sociologist James G. Wolfe estimated that 48.5% of priests were gay" ... that's just the first one repeated!!!

"During 1990, Rev. Thomas Crangle, a Franciscan priest in Passaic, N.J., mailed a survey to 500 randomly selected priests. Of the 398 responses, about 45% said that they were gay." This is the only one that we can see that there was *some* kind of scientific method behind it, hence the comment above about "one meagre survey". However, we can't see the full study (at least I couldn't find it via google, although there were references to the same conclusions). So we don't know if it was truly random, we don't know what questions were asked, how they were framed, or how the answers were categorised or analysed. We have no way of judging if the research was objective, or if the author deliberately or, more likely, inadvertently introduced subjective biases either in the methodology or in the analysis.

So while you have 5 4 "sources", you have only one survey, and that open to question.

I could quite easily give it as my learnéd opinion that 90% of users of After Hours are quite naive when it comes to their understanding of statistics, but it would just be my opinion without a solid foundation of evidence to back it up.

And 90% of AH users would probably nod knowingly and agree.

(Which, ironically, would actually be evidence to bolster my claim!)

And if I dressed that claim up in nice language, others would probably quote me, and hence the "sources" for this "fact" would proliferate.
