The Seals are kicking ass again I see and it was a nice clean clinical job by the looks of it.

I'm sure they'd still acknowledge the professionalism of the SEALs if they were still with us :D

While you are sating your bloodlust all the other hostages lives are now in extreme danger and for what? A PR coup for the waning Obama presidency.
It's disgusting how you all take part in this and sanction it with your safe fireside cheering.

I think you're confusing the rabbits in Watership Down with Somali pirates, an easy mistake to make.:P

    What is your solution?

I have already outlined that. The bully boys wouldn't like it though.

It's quite amazing to read a thread where Irish people (given our history) cheerlead a nation who habitually refuse to respect the sovereignty of the world's nations (typically the impoverished ones).

I'd be highly critical of US foreign policy but that doesn't stop me from being able to park my criticism to form an opinion on, as I see it, a well planned and executed hostage extraction.

A few less scumbags to worry about.

How are all the other hostages in danger? Because the terrorists now know that at any time a Seal team will fall out of the sky and kill them all if they have hostages?

This is part of an on-going operation in Somali. The pirates are getting picked off one by one. It's in the pirates best interests not to have a government, police force or army in Somali, so whilst there are pirates, there won't be a Somali government.

    Well done Seals.

They must be pretty crap pirates in fairness. Even an eskimo with a club can kill seals.

They were already in extreme danger, it kind of comes with the territory of being a hostage. You know, the whole "their life is forfeit if..." thing. Part of the reason the US acted in this case was due to an apparent deterioration in the health of one of the hostages who may well have died as a hostage.

In the meantime, after the way the French dealt with the last two pirate groups which took French captive (in one case, storm the boat and kill everyone, and in the other case, pay the ransom, then after hostage release, kill everyone and get the money back) I've not heard much of French being taken captive recently.

    NTM

    I'm confused....

One day everyone hates America for being the 'world police' and sticking their nose where it doesn't belong.

The next day, everyone loves America for being the 'world police' and sticking their nose where it doesn't belong....?

TV cameras even captured Obama congratulating Defense Secretary Leon Panetta as he shook hands in the House chamber Tuesday night, telling him "You did a great job today." Another top Pentagon spokesman, Navy Capt. John Kirby, said that at that moment, Obama and Panetta had learned the hostages were safe, though the special operators had not yet "buttoned up" the raid.

The White House said Obama was congratulating Panetta and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey after learning about "the success of the mission" at 6:43 that evening.

    Great timing.

Likewise, I'll criticise US policy when I have to, but you just got to admire the professional excellence of the SEALs.

Not to take away from their expertise but it's suspected that they had help on the ground in the form of local intelligence.

Ah yeah. Was just trying to point out that there are likely plenty of Somalians who are against the taking of hostages - especially aid workers I would have thought.

^^ Hookum....who would you rather be held captive by; somebody who has nothing against you personally or a somebody angered by the death of his comrades?
You suffer from colonists syndrome and it's tantamount to a form of racism; at the end of the day, 'the native is expendable'. Bullying, what joe public in the States thinks is a beligerent, gets votes and this is what this whole operation is about.
Put a couple of carriers in there with fast response patrolling jets and do the hard, expensive work for the betterment of everybody.
The west stripped these people of their right to an existence over centuries, it's the least we could do.

It's always America's fault isn't it? All this colonial b******. Somalia got their independence long, long ago. They made, and continue to make, a mess of it with internal conflicts. It's a mess created by religious and tribal divides, most maniacal Islamists. Nothing to do with America. When America tried to help oust the warlords and help their government, as mandated by the UN, they were repelled by these gangs, druggies with guns. So leave them to it, let them sort their own mess out. Until they interfere with ships and foreign citizens that is, then everyone should be happy that America is happy to go in and kill these evil f***ers and wonder why their own special forces aren't doing the same where possible.

Who said that? Colonists left almost every colony they had in a mess when they withdrew. Some more than others. It could and has been argued that we are still in a post colonial phrase.
But particularly in Africa they left a shameful mess that countries have yet to recover from. Britian where in Somalia until the 1960's along with France and Italy, they hadn't a hope, in reality, of establishing stable governance. It's a mess created by the west for which they are now paying. Blood letting won't cure the problems however much of a thrill those infatuated with American muscle get from it.

I don't see anything wrong with admiring a government who care enough to extract their civilians from harm. It's not like these pirates have a political wing.

We should pass some kind of Stamp Out Piracy Act.

The former will kill you if the money doesn't come, or the latter will kill you if the money doesn't come. Comrades? You must remember there is many gangs, all fighting for the drugs, for the money, for the power. I really doubt they'll care if their competition dies "because they're not stupid enough to let a Seal team get a drop on them..." :pac:

They held two Western tourists hostage and demanded money, and you're telling me that they did this because they were bullied and they aren't beligerents? Just victims of poverty? Why isn't every single other Somalian involved in it so?

It's got nothing to do with wider issues in African society. It's about these f***ing scum of the earth types, who think butchering innocents is a way to make some money, who need to be eradicated from the earth and if America is happy to do it, I say fair play and thank you very much :)

Your ability to interpret posts is matched by your ignorance of why situations like this develop.

I mentioned America in this instance because the Seals are American....doh!
The blame lies with the west for the reasons I outlined. If you advocate wiping out what you call scum,(i.e. those who kill for gain) sooner or later you will have to take out the Americans.:D
