The City is about the mad chats you wander into in a pub, the tunes you come across, the way the bay looks different every time you walk by it, the gorgeous buildings...and Sally O'Brien and the way she might look at ya. :p

Seriously, Galway is about a lovely vibe. It is not the place to come and do 10 thousand touristy things, although it is steeped in history. Pub culture is doable and lovely without having to drink alcohol in most places (daytime-early eve is best). Galway is beautiful to walk around.

There is often comedy/theatre in the eve, but we need more. More lunchtime theatre and comedy like the good old days in The Kings Head. Music wise we are grand for trad, but need more original musicvenues

    You coming up from Shannon?
If you just want to "see" things then drive past the city into Connemara.

Later in the year I'd highly suggest that Segway tour of Galway. I did it last year for a laugh and it was great fun.

I'd suggest just having a walk around... eyre square, shop st, market, along the canals and maybe woodquay. pop in to a pub for lunch. it's not too hard if you slow down enough to enjoy yerself.

Visit the new-age-crusty-camp in Eyre Square, good for 1/2 hour of fun trying to make sense of their economic philosophies.

See if there are any fesitvals etc on - there quite often are, with entertainment in streets etc. Even if there's not a fesitval, there will be plenty of buskers if it's the weekend.

I'd recommend the city walking tour, if it's running when you come (I'm not sure) - you get to hear the stories of the hangings in Eyre Square, how the Kings Head got it's name, and lots of other stuff.

Another vote for the walking tour,

When you're finished head to McDonaghs for a feed of fish and chips

I know this isn't the Occupy thread but still referring to the protesters as crusties in another current thread isn't on.

Back on topic. OP, what stuff are you interested in? What stuff would you like to see? Did you do any googling of Galway for touristy stuff?

There is a open top tourist bus but I've never been on it.

Ive been told that bus isnt great value. A lot of its time is spent sitting in traffic on Eglinton St or before the Hospital.

We did it once with visitors 7 years ago and it was great. Real sweet old fella just made it.
"Galway bay, widely acknowledged as the most beeeeauuuutiful bay in the worlllllld-ah".

Did it again with visitors maybe 4 years ago but they changed the route (went down circular road) and a different driver... wouldn't be bothered. So often with these things it's the personality of the person that makes or breaks it. They should have taped him, he was priceless.
