So its Axls fault we've a **** bus service?

I saw the Prodigy come on at 1am in the Point before, back in the good old days when we weren't so up our own arses and there was some ****ing life in this town! This was when Sheriff St was still very much a dangerous ****hole. No IFSC, no LUAS, no taxis. And no ****ing money. I walked back into town at 3am after, in the freezing cold, had a chat about the gig with my mates and then got a taxi home. No big deal. Ive done it plenty of times since from the O2. Including the GnR gig in 2010.

People now seem to want to be dropped to the door, shown to their seat, drink brought to them, played the old reliable hits, told "you're the best crowd ever", escorted out into a waiting taxi and then driven home and tucked into their beds. **** OFF!

****ing spoiled rotten. Celtic Tiger syndrome.

As for your (frankly laughable) attempt to get a refund from MCD!!? WHY? They played the gig, they sounded good. Most people went home happy and enjoyed it. Ive no time for MCD by the way, none. But in this case, they did nothing wrong.

Why in the name of God did you expect to be refunded?

I agree with pretty m,uch all youve said.

Going to gigs now or since Tiger times is seen as what 'cool' people do now. So they have to make it an 'experience'.

ah its sickening tbh. Its why average bands have become so big.

Guns N Roses of the 90s versus Snow Patrol of the 10's
I know which gig id wanna be at and I like both.

But todays GnR is not the same.

I saw them at the 02. I do not recommend it to anyone. Worst gig I've been to. Probably the worst I'll ever experience unless a roof collapses and people die.

What other gigs have you been to? List a few of them please so we can judge you and laugh at your arse-clenchingly embarrassing taste in music.

@sugarlumps - Eh you just don't get it. Over a hundred million bought appetite and obviously do. It is called taste. Yours is different. Its not rocket science

According to Wiki it’s sold 28 million. Now Celine Dion’s “Let’s talk about love” has sold 31 million. Thats called taste too bud.

There are way more than 4 top tunes on the Illusion albums.

    Don't Cry
    Bad Obsession
    Back Off Bitch
    Double Talkin' Jive
    November Rain
    Coma

They're from Illusion 1 alone

Don't Cry would be the only tune for me out of that list.

Tongue in cheek really. It wasn't the music that was bad. It was Mr. Rose. I've never seen anything like it before. If he could have spat on every person in the place he would have.

You genuinely felt he hated the crowd? Mad, you'd wonder what does be going on in his mind at times

Ha! Sorry. It's hard to tell the tone sometimes. People can get fairly defensive when you're talking about a band they like.

EnterNow, I stayed until the end of the gig and got up really close to the stage. Myself and my friends really wanted to enjoy it but being able to see Axl sneer and shake his head at the crowd.... the look on his face. He sang through gritted teeth. He practically had his back to us for most of it. There was a feeling of total ill toward the entire crowd, such a wanker.

I got my figures mixed up. They have over 100 million albums sales worldwide. 28 million is the official figure for appetite though I read somewhere that this is grossly underestimated for some reason or other. My point was that just because the music is not to your taste doesn't mean it is bad.

I never said Appetite was a bad album, it’s everything else they’ve released.

Again, in your opinion. The Use Your Illusion albums are the only records to debut at 1 & 2 on billboard. They have countless songs on both that other groups would kill to have in theor catalogue.

Yeah I knew something wasn't right there. As far as I'm aware, Appetite is the biggest selling debut album to date...though I could be wrong.

    I WILL be there, I can't wait!
I did'nt go to the last gig but I saw the videos on Youtube. I was'nt really suprised by him being late tbh.. The audience did'nt go about it the right way in how they reacted. Any GN'R fan knows Axl is famously known for his late gigs, so get over it and enjoy the music :D

Looking forward to another great LATE night in the 02. This line up are a great live band when they get on stage.

There is a lot of glossing over what happened at the last gig in this thread.

It wasn't a simple case of Axl being late, coming onstage at 10:25pm

There was also the fact that people were told that there was an 11pm curfew and that the gig WOULD be over then, no exceptions. (imagine thinking that you had just paid €71 for a 35min set if you were to believe the curfew)

Then there was other people who were told that their car would be clamped if it wasn't out of the carpark by 12. (when the band came back on it meant the gig wouldn't be over until well past 12)

Then there was security telling people the gig was over and to leave when the houselights went up,

Then when the band came back on, security wouldn't let people re-enter.

A shambles from start to finish. MCD/o2/Axl/2 idiot fans all at fault.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭rednik

Well then Ron let's hope the gig in May is not a shambles and all the anti Axl group stay at home and let the people who want to see the band do so.

I've been to see the band 3 times. 2006 in the RDS, 2010 in Toronto and 2010 in the O2. Will be getting a ticket for this gig when they go on sale as well.

As others have said, in 2006 the band were bang on time coming on stage. While I really enjoyed the show, the band at that stage were very much still finding their feet.

The 2010 gig in Toronto was one of the best I've ever been to. I can't remember exactly what time the band came on but it was no earlier than they did in Dublin in the O2. The replacement of Robin Finck with DJ Ashba definitely improved the band immeasurably IMO as they are a far tighter unit now on stage.

I think everything that can be said about the O2 gig has been said at this stage. I knew what to expect in terms of waiting for the band to come on so wasn't too bothered by the delay. I've no issue with the crowd voicing their disapproval though but throwing stuff at the stage is inexcusable.

What I will say though is that the band seemed very "ON" in the first 5 songs of that night and it's a pity that Dublin didn't get to see a full show of that standard.

I can't see this show selling out and have no issue with people not willing to take the gamble on it. I, however, shall be getting my ticket on Friday morning and am already looking forward to the gig.

Also, the support band didn't finish until 9.15 which didn't help. So blame them. Or the road crew..

Wow , thats the most naive post Ive read in a while.

Some people in here need to cop on a bit, talking about Facebook campaigns to stop this gig from happening. Who the fcuk are you to decide that??!! You'd swear Axl was Nick Griffin from the BNP or something. It's a free country, if people want to go and see a band they are entirely free to do so.

All he did was leave the stage because some drunken children thought it would be hilarious to throw beer at him. I'd understand if the gig was cut short but the band played a full set that night. I had a ticket for it but couldn't go due to circumstances at the time but I wish I had gone. I'll definitely be getting one for May.

With GNR getting inducted in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in April, I'd love it if some of the old members made some appearances with Axl on the road, as Izzy and Duff have done in recent times. That might teach people a lesson or two!

Can't wait for this gig ... Yes 2010 at the O2 was a shambles, Axl was 40minutes late ... big deal, the guy has always done this so you should know the score by now, if you can't deal with it then don't go, simples :) he puts it down to preparing his voice and getting into the right mentality to play the gig. And personally I would rather wait and get an incredible performance with Axl totally on fire than have him shoehorned on stage just so he is on time.

The crowd was the worst I have ever seen and an embarrassment to this country, What kind of idiot would pay their hard earned money to see an act then fire bottles at them.

Also to people who say this isn't Guns N' Roses, sure its not the original line up, but the band is insanely talented and Axl is the last great rock n' roll front man left.

I and many others wouldn't have cared about the wait if we knew that the curfew would be lifted and that cars would not be clamped after 12. If it takes Axl so long to prepare his voice and get in the right frame of mind then maybe he should prepare earlier. Or maybe the reality is that he should leave his hotel earlier than 5 minutes before hitting the stage. I don't buy the vocal exercises bull**** because he clearly hasn't been minding his voice and it takes him about 5 gigs or more into a tour to sound anything remotely like what he is capable of. Unprofessional. Look at the last Rock N Rio for proof. Clearly he hadn't prepared unlike the rest of the band. He has been doing the same **** for years. It is old now.

The crowd was the worst I have ever seen and an embarrassment to this country, What kind of idiot would pay their hard earned money to see an act then fire bottles at them.
2 people does not make a crowd

No he isn't the last. And if he was then why is he being managed by his housekeeper from Brazil. Fact is he has burned so many bridges in the industry nobody is prepared to work with him in a managing capacity. He is closer to Spinal Tap territory these days.

This is bizarre. After the last gig I remember thinking that if nothing the people at that gig could have said that they were at the last ever Irish Guns N' Roses gig, that surely no other promoter would ever book them to play in the country again, let alone MCD. I wonder love to know the exact details of this deal, as a previous poster said I'd say there's a specific mention regarding stage times in it.
