Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Database for my own Herd/flock?

For a while I have been considering having my pedigree flock of sheep on my own database for personal use.

All my details for individual sheep like Birth Weights, 40 day weights and other weights, factory weight and price, lambing ease and flock ancestry are on paper.

It would be similar to basco search engine for texel and suffolks in Britain but with my personal info on weights for lambs and so on in my flock.

You'd be able to click onto an individual animal and see all his details and could also see his parentage 'ancestry'.

Where could I get this done?

    All comments welcome

You could set up your own data base with MS access or MySQL theres loads of tutorials on youtube but the main parentage 'ancestry' would have to be got from www.icbf.com and if you joined them they would have all the info for you anyway

Why not just become a sheep Ireland member ?

I intend the Database to be personal for my own flock.

I don't think Sheep Ireland do cross bred flocks for performance recording/ancestry unless its their CPT/Malp flocks.

They may facilitate you if you ask especially if you were willing to use pb rams as it may give them an idea on commercial flock s just an idea

I'm not familiar with MS access, but I have used MS excel and it works ok for me, very easy to add a new column or animal. Can also use different colours to highlight an animal.

Clicking on the kingswood "sheep" link takes me to this crowd in the UK who seem to have a variety of packages for wool, milk, pedigree, etc.

I have no connection with either organisation or farming - http://www.tgmsoftware.com/ They seem to have 30-day free trial offers on their site
