Looking for something smaller (13.3") with similar spec myself.

The E320 has more or less the same spec, it's a very good deal.

Thanks, but pushes the price to 646€ when an i5 chip is selected, may wait altogether for an ultra book with SSD

An ultrabook is different though. The E320 uses a standard voltage CPU, Ultrabooks are almost always sold with less powerful ultra-low-voltage CPUs.

    woah

rip off man, should cancel that and order a 2gb stick here, simple to install.

an extra 2gb stick would cost you less than €15 delivered here: http://www.crucial.com/eu/store/listparts.aspx?model=ThinkPad%20Edge%20E320&Cat=SSD

or you could pay an extra few euro and get a 4gb stick.

Some decent prices there, even for the high end Thinkpads. I'm not in the market for one because my 5 year old X61 still does the daily donkey work. Good, solid machines.

As per KillBill Vol 2, am going to hold out reluctantly, yes some very good stuff there.

Have the x60s, still running pretty well, looks like some good deals though

I know, my x61 is still used daily. Absolutely fantastic machine. Next upgrade will definitely be another thinkpad.

Can't really recommend Lenovo any more. Had a refund pending for 2 months. Now placed order last Thu, asked today when is it going to ship, got answer:
"This order has not yet shipped. Please await shipping confirmation email
in the next week or so."
Next week OR SO? Who did Lenovo employ to write that kind of answer I wonder.
So I'm stuck, waiting for another week OR SO. Might get it another month OR SO. This must be a joke..

Has anybody installed and extra ram in their E520's? looking at getting 8gb for €40 and installing it myself but worried I will void my warranty.

  • Registered Users Posts: 78 ✭✭dsender

@spr1nt3r I've currently got a RMA in progress, just waiting on details for collection of the laptop. I decided to return within the 14 day period.

Was your issue similar and were you dealing with digital river?
2 months to get the cash back??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 587 ✭✭✭Sync

So how good a deal is this, are the "savings" being exagerrated on the website?

Thinking of getting a new laptop in the next few months (want i3 minimum) but would I be better off waiting? :)

you wont void the warranty by installing ram yourself, its been like this since about 20+years ago, they actually make videos for you to DIY.

Yep, exactly same one here. Ordered 2 laptops end November, waited few weeks, cancelled order but the items were already on the way. Refused delivery, they said refund is due as soon as the items are back to them (5 days max?). Waited till first week in Jan to get refund for first. Waited till first week in Feb to get the second.

Mind you, Lenovo laptops seems to be solid and well build. But the service is crap. When I asked them when the item is due to arrive, they said quote: "In a week or so". That's official rep emailing a customer? No thanks.

    Really? Why?

I've had a toshiba and I loved it, only sold it because it was outdated... have a toshiba netbook now and it's grand but I need something more powerful... Saw a nice i5 with nvidia graphics for around the same price as the lenovo ones...

Most of my friend had HP, all changed to something else. As for Toshiba am not sure. I have used Lenovo, ASUS and Sony ones all seems ok. Some a bit pricey but all solid enough. I looked ad few Toshiba and Acer in shops, just too flimsy and more centred on beginner (fancy looks, colours, buttons, lights).

I keep on checking Lenovo online's shop but I can never seem to get the configuration I want there since several options are not available as they would have on their preconfigured machines- sounds like I have been lucky in that regard. This preconfigured machine keeps on selling out and when I investigated why it wasn't coming back in stock I realised the new Edge's are coming out in April 12- Ivy Bridge with usb3 and possibly Thunderbolt as well
    http://www.tncnewscentral.com/2012/01/lenovo-thinkpad-edge-s430-e430-e530-thunderbolt/

Will be holding off for this one and definitely not going to use their online shop.
It would be worth your while to check the Lenovo promotions site as well since you can sometimes get a free-ish 3 year upgrade on the warranty through a refund from them.

Lenovo promotions are very handy and very generous. For the Ivy Bridge, read here:

Seems like SandyBridge is a solid option for those who need a laptop now.
