Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

basic question on positioning of 5.1 speakers

    Looking for some advice.

At the moment my TV is positioned in the centre of the wall facing my couch, and i have the four surround speakers in each corner of the room.

However, I'm moving house in the next couple of weeks and where I'm moving too, I won't be able to have the TV so centrally located, it'll be off to one corner.

I'm wiring the sitting room at the moment and just not sure where the best position would be for the speakers. The back left and right will be okay as I will be able to put them in the back corners behind the couch. Unsure about the front set up though. Should I position the two front left and right speakers pretty much on the TV unit, so that you'd have the left, right and centre speaker all there next to the TV, which will be positioned in the left corner? The alternative would be the right speaker in the right corner of the room, and then you'd have the left speaker, the TV itself and the centre speaker pretty much in the left corner of the room. That sounds to me like it would mess up the balance between the three?

Sorry, probably silly question, but I'm not experienced with sound set ups and need to get it wired correctly the first time.

    Thanks

My situation is the same with the TV in the corner. I reckon your only real option is to mount the front left and rights near the TV and the centre below the screen. That's how I've done mine and I know it's not ideal but the sound is pretty good.
If you're sitting directly in front of the screen, try to direct all three speakers towards you to create a more concentrated sound stage.
If your amp has automatic setup using a microphone, all the better.
