Mark Hunt is the rumor for his opponent from my reading apparently. Currently ranked no.8 heavyweight in UFC and told to stay ready for UFC 200 by Dana white despite not having a fight atm

That's only going to end one way unfortunately but it's not like it's a full-time return for Brock at least. Getting knocked out by Mark Hunt won't hurt his stock too much though, he'd never be expected to beat him after over 4 years away from the sport and a big bullseye on his abdomen (he might've physically recovered from diverticulitis but he won't have recovered mentally).

I don't see this as being good for WWE. If he loses his fight, his stock is diminished a great deal in WWE. Not fatally diminished, but diminished nonetheless. It's risky. I'm surprised WWE allowed this reported clause for him.

I wouldnt be overly worried. A loss just means they have someone like the Social Outcasts call him out to make fun of the loss, and he just utterly destroys them. They can turn him heel off the back of a UFC loss, have him furious and wants to take out his anger on someone.

Or, this being WWE, they will utterly ignore all the publicity they get from it and pretend it never happened....

Im delighted by this news. Brock brings that big fight feel that very few currently in the UFC can. 200 was already a good PPV with DC vs JJ but with Brock on the card it is now unmissable.

Also the thought of Vince and Dana now working together is interesting. It was only a few weeks ago that people were speculating about UFC being sold and Vince possibly being a buyer. Also a mad coincidence that the UFC crossover has happened now that Shane is back involved. Im not saying Shane is responsible because I have no idea how much stroke he has in WWE right now but it is just a weird coincidence.

So Ariel Hawani gets a lifetime ban from UFC for breaking the news, and was apparently escorted from the building before the main event last night...

Personally found that to be one of the maddest things about the whole situation. The lad was just doing his job imo. I'm sure he was told not to leak it prior to the announcement etc but don't tell a reporter big news if you don't want them to report it.

A lifetime ban is extreme to the max.

Absolutely shocking from a PR standpoint, and something I hope they back down on very, very quickly. "Dont shoot the messenger" comes to mind.

I love Helwani but I don't see them backing down anytime soon. Might not be lifetime but he'll be in the doghouse for quite a while. Sure isn't it said that UFC got him fired from his Fox gig, they don't mess around.

They didn't back down with Stitch

They didn't back down with McGregor

Can't see them backing down on Helwani

Lol. I doubt ufc's value will lower. He was told not to report it & did, I imagine it was from a 3rd party. He should know where his bread is buttered after Fox dumped him. Pity most people are talking about that than Bisping's huge achievement. I laughed at the timing of him being turfed out tho. Kudos on the pettiness

Josh Barnett is fighting Arlovski in Hamburg in September so while the UFC are not averse to moving things around, it would seem unlikely at the moment.

I can see it being Mark Hunt too, but that's based on nothing but his comments regarding UFC 200 over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately for Lesnar, I can only see things going one way if that's the case. Hunt is an active fighter who has changed things up in terms of diet/training of late and has KO'd his last 2 opponents in the 1st round. This one would go the same way IMO.

That said, I wouldn't fancy Brock against any active heavyweight who has had a couple of wins recently. 4 and a half years is a long time away from the octagon.

not a hope its hunt, way too dangerous for a guy who hasnt fought in four years, its barnett or a carwin rematch for my money

I don't think the UFC need Brock to win though if it's only a one fight deal. Might be better for UFC if he does lose and can unintentionally 'put someone over' to use a WWE term.

I hear what you're saying but my concern is that his entire gimmick is that he's this superhuman beast, 'the conqueror', and I just can't see how that can ever be the same if the world sees him get his ass handed to him in the octagon.

I could see him returning to the way he was when he was losing to the likes of HHH and Cena. He'd be an attraction, but no longer have that superhuman 'who can stop him' aura about him.

Imagine for instance his opponent taps him out at UFC 200, and then Brock makes a return to WWE in front of some smart crowd like Chicago or New York, you would have thousands of fans chanting 'you tapped out' at Brock who will have to stand there and absorb it while Heyman desperately tries to tell us Brock is an unstoppable force. I dread the thought of that tbh. And there would be no way for Brock to get any steam back against the guy that would have inflicted the defeat.

Of course, if he wins then there's no issue and in fact his stock would rise. But if he loses...I'm just hating the thought of it.

One of the guys on the MMA forum said it early this morning. I assumed it was true when Dana bizarrely appeared on espn denying negotiations with Lesnar after mmafighting broke the story & before the ufc announced it only a short time later. Ariel has been on UFC's shıt on list since he was talking positively about fighters using free agency to their own advantage, in particular with Rory MacDonald. Weird that they turfed him out minutes after him being shown talking in an ad hyping for UFC 200. But maybe it acted as a reminder for ufc brass to sling him out.

The Ronda one sounds like a reasonable trade off. Rousey vs. Steph would certainly get more eyes on the show, for as bad of a match as it would be.

I dunno, I think I'd enjoy seeing Steph get demolished. Might not be a technical masterclass, but it'd be fun at least.

Won't be an easy fight for him at all. So many peolpe talking about how he would want to face someone who isn't as good as Hunt after 5 years out of MMA but then again this is The Beast Brock Freakin Lesner and it just wouldn't seem like a Brock type of thing for him to take a fight that would be percieved as easy at this stage.

    This will be very interesting!

    http://www.pwinsider.com/article/102497/brock-lesnar-says-his-ufc-return-announcement-was-three-months-in-the-making-complete-lesnar-on-sportscenter-report.html?p=1
Former WWE and UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar appeared on ESPN Sportscenter this morning in studio for a face to face interview with Hannah Storm to discuss his return to the Octagon to fight at UFC 200 on 7/9 in Las Vegas, Lesnar's first MMA fight since 2011.

Lesnar explained that he was returning to MMA because his decision to retire and focus on WWE was a hard decision and one that has haunted him for the last 15 months. He said that he couldn't "live like that for the rest of my life." Lesnar said he was a big believer in living out your dreams and facing your fears and he said that facing the reality of not wanting to wish 20 years from now that he had fought again.

He said he was on the biggest stage, UFC 100 and now he will do it again at UFC 200.

When asked about the origins of the return, Lesnar said it was very simple and he was sitting in his farm having a cup of coffee. He said he woke up every day wondering if he made the right decision. He said he didn't tell anyone, not even his wife and it was haunting him. He said that in WWE, he could have the competitive feelings inside the ring but the true competitor in him didn't allow him not to return.

Lesnar said that at the top of his career, he wasn't at the top of his game due to health issues, so he feels cheated. He said he never lost to an opponent in his heart except to diverticulitis. He said that his losses were due to the injury and today feels 1000% better. He said he's not going to fake it and say he's in the greatest shape of his life but this is for real and he's excited.

When asked who his opponent is, Lesnar said that Mark Hunt has just signed the contract to face him. Lesnar said that he didn't have any say in who he would face. He's never turned down a fight and never walked away from a fight. He said that Dana White never gave him options and just told him who he wanted to fight.

Lesnar said he's a grappler at heart and Hunt is a heavy-hitter and that's what people want to see - opposing disciplines against each other. He said he's looking forward to working on his stand-up game.

Lesnar was asked how WWE and UFC came together to let this happen. Lesnar wasn't called by anyone. Lesnar said the process began 3 months ago. He asked UFC what were the chances of him fighting at UFC 200. He said he went and had a big boy conversation with the boss.

Lesnar was asked what WWE gets out of this. Lesnar said it's narrow-minded to think that. He's a two sport athlete. He said that he's blessed that both companies have faith in Brock Lesnar returning to the Octagon. He said to represent the show means a lot to him.

Lesnar was asked why he was brought back. He said "big business." Lesnar said that he's a prizefighter and titles don't make money. He said that he's doing this from the heart and it just happens that he's going to be making a lot of money.

Lesnar declined to say how much he was getting paid for the fight. He said everyone's going to make money.

Lesnar said he feels like a weight is lifted off his shoulders with the announcement.

Lesnar was asked if 7/9 will be enough. He said it may just be a tease and he will have to see once they cross that bridge. He said he has Summerslam in August too. He said he's on the card but doesn't know who he's facing.

Lesnar said he's been thinking about doing this for some time. Lesnar said that once he got the go-ahead from "the higher powers" he began training and seeing how he felt. He said that the training for WWE and UFC is completely different.

Lesnar said that sealing the deal was all about getting everyone on the same page.

Lesnar was asked about Ariel Helwani being banned from UFC for breaking the story on Lesnar's return. Brock said he doesn't know who Helwani is and doesn't do Twitter and doesn't care about anyone but himself.

Lesnar was asked thoughts on Conor McGregor. Lesnar said he knows of him and he knows that the sports has evolved, even from the first time Lesnar competed. He said you have to walk the walk and talk the talk. He said McGregor is great for the company and if someone wants to claim to be the biggest PPV draw in the world, great. He said that all he knows is what he was paid and that made him happy. He said hanging championships on the wall don't pay the bills.

Lesnar told a story of meeting Muhammad Ali. He said that he shook his hand and Ali didn't have to say anything to him. He said it was a gracious handshake and he felt something powerful. He said he's watched all of Ali's fights and when he met him, he felt his power and presence. He said for Ali to live with Parkinson's for so many years was a battle in itself. He said that was a feat of it's own.

Lesnar was asked about legacy and said that is for someone else to decide. He just has to get up in the morning and be OK with who he is. He said people who worry about legacies are shallow and he is just moving forward.

    Ah poor Ariel :o

Im not surprised by this at all. I used to do an MMA podcast with Devore and i used to work in Sports TV. I have seen and heard a few things. These are my beliefs below....

I believe that WWE and UFC have been cross promoting for years. UFC was seeing a gap in star power on their roster and WWE are spotting the hottest new sport thats out there. It was done in the past with WCW and NBA players.

A member of the Mcmahon family had met with the UFC after leaving WWE. At the time it was big news at the time. Dana White said nothing came of the meeting. I believe something did come from that meeting.

This McMahon then came to Ireland and invested in an Irish sports company with business men who have a very close connection with the UFC. This was actually reported back a few years ago and originally mistook him for investing with a famous Hollywood actor with a similar sounding name to one of these Irish business men.
I believe they were going to test a new method promoting fighters using an unknown Irish fighter as a Ginny pig. To which it worked out phenomenally. At this stage a former WWE wrestler was well established within the UFC, but many felt there was a clock ticking with this guy and his ability to preform. (whole other story)
I believe the decision was then made to send him back to the WWE to rest up and get back to the shape he needs to be in, to compete again. He was originially slated to return to the UFC but after a number of top stars failed drugs tests it was seen as best for him to stay with the WWE and limited dates.
At this time another wrestler was offered to the UFC. This individual would have to be a big name. Somebody that could possibly compete "well" and sell tickets. Not to mention, to be able to professionally handle the change over. I believe it was seen as best for him to leave the wwe disgruntled, that way he would take his fans with him as well as not loose too much face with UFC fans who dont like outsiders. So far i dont think it has worked out the way they wanted it for this individual. I believe he will also return to WWE within the next 2 years. I believe UFC is looking at other talent in Japan who have experience in pro wrestling and MMA, so they can continue this relationship.

    Disclaimer
These are my beliefs and in no way means that they are true.
