Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

yes in the midlands all the auld lads restored and did up the 135s and put beacons on them. but then again they dont be moving to fast.

I do have a beacon on the jeep when moving my plant trailer (The trailer is 12" wider than the jeep on both sides becasuse of the wheel arches). You mainly get the bingo crew not slowing up, most others do gave a bit of extra room

Which could pull a huge trailer of straw though.

I agree, people take no notice of them because they are overused for no reason, I feel second hand embarrassment for lads with them on for no reason.

It's mandatory in france to have them on any tractor using the public road. You'd see small yokes with rolls bars on! Funny :D

Something tells me the law might have been changed in this regard fairly recently, but certainly up until then it was illegal to have a flashing beacon on any road-going vehicle that wasn't operated by the emergency services. I don't see the logic in restricting them to tractors over a certain horsepower either, surely the whole point is to warn other traffic of a slow moving vehicle no matter how big it is. Anyway if your load is more than the legal width of 2.4 metres then you should have, again by the letter of the law, appropriate markings (wide load signs etc.) to warn approaching traffic.

ya sure they wanted to bring in something like if your load id over 8feet wide then u have to get the guards to go in frount of you or get a permit, sure nearly everything is over 8 foot wide. ,baler, mower, trailer, digger etc.

2.4 metres is about 8 feet, and again by the letter of the law you're already supposed to have a permit to move anything wider. trailers are made to a max width of 8ft for this reason, a baler wouldn't be any more than that unless it had huge tyres on it. The guards usually turn a blind eye to mowers, one-passes etc but I know from experience that if you bring it to their attention that you want to move something big like a combine for example, especially through a town, they'll insist on you applying for a permit.

Beacons should only be used when pulling big or awkward loads. Not when bringing the transport box for a spin!!!

we have a square baler at home that's 9 foot wide so it's hard to see where the 8 foot limit comes from sure most round bale trailers are 8 and a half foot wide and there on the road all year round

on the subject of becons if you have anything that is wider than the tractor behind you you should have them turned on to warn people of that fact there is no other resion to have them on like

funny enough i was stopped by the gardai a few weeks back for driving my tractor with the beacons turned off on the main road with a trailer (empty) on behind. I was told to turn them on and keep them on..
