Usual story, I'll be in Galway and he'll be in Dublin. Also, his birthday is a week beforehand and since I'm a broke student I can't afford to spoil him for both events!! Next year we'll be living together and we'll both be able to afford to do nice things, but this year I suppose we'll swap cards and that'll be it.

Planned on doing nothing again with just cards but I was in work tonight and saw we are selling dogs that move and sing "build me up buttercup" so i bought it and gave it to him tonight :):)
    More for my entertainment though!

Nothing, apart from a nice dinner at home perhaps, don't want flowers we've never gone out for dinner.

I do need perfume though :)

Nothing will still be fine, I suspect we will both forget it :)

This year though, I think I will try and find a card to him from me and the baby.

    Try moonpig.com
You can make it from whoever you like :)

My husband and I don't really do anything for Valentines day though he sometimes cooks me a nice dinner but he won't be here this Valentine's day so I'll make some toast :D

Personally I'm not that into it from an adult point of view. But I always buy my daughter, flowers, chocolates, and a card!

We have 2 under 2 and I would hate the idea of getting an overpriiced babysitter to mind them, plus I do not eat out in the evening if I can help it for medical reasons so he is getting a card. I do not want flowers, well he can get me a red rose and I am a type 1 diabetic so while I can eat sweets they loose the attraction. Our wedding anniversary and anniversary of our first date are the things we celebrate.

Both are birthdays are coming up soon so we'll celebrate them instead.

Last year both of us did some really cheesey things so I think it'll be ok to do nothing this year. :D

We've never done anything for V-day, but we saw this online last night & both had a good laugh. If we were to ever get cards for each other they'd be like this, just for the joke of it:

I'll be at Metallitia in Fibbers on the 11th on the pull so hopefully this year I won't be alone. Even so, if things don't work out, I'll be reverting to the usual stallwarts of cake, drink and self loathing.

Why pay 7p when you can print out your own Tesco Value one? http://www.tescovaluecards.com/

Use the printer at work do you don't have to pay for the paper/ink :pac:

I'm doing what I do every year, making my bf a card and gift. I love card making so any excuse really but he does really appreciate it. He even made me something last year and its really not his thing, so i loved that he did for me.

We're really not into the usual v day stuff like restaurants, going away etc so we'll probably make some nice dinner together and rent a couple of dvds and relax for ourselves!

    Can't wait :)

I'm making up small parcels and cards now to send to my lovely boyfriend, sister, friend and dog! :pac: The cards for parents were too cheesy and soppy so they don't get one!

Have a very long day of classes on a Tuesday but will hopefully find a time to call or Skype or my boyfriend :) He sent me a humongous parcel of sweets and chocolates so I will eat whats left of them then!

I have never celebrated Valentine's Day before. I haven't had an interest in it, nor has my special someone... but this year I really want to tell him how much I love and appreciate him. :)

I am SO glad I am not the only female that doesn't buy into the whole Valentine's Day thing. I am SICK of hearing about it. Seriously - does someone have to make an effort on one day and not the other 364 days?!

Why would you presume that couple who celebrate Valentine's day don't do anything nice for each other any other day?
It seems you can't have fun and celebrate any holiday anymore without someone rolling their eyes at you.

Boyfriend and I are both working this year, different shifts too, so not doing anything.
Plus, my birthday is the day after and his a week later so it's an expensive month for us! But I'll still call him to tell him I love him and I know he'll do something nice for me too.
    Nothing wrong with loving someone.

You get a day older everyday of the year, why celebrate a birthday?

Its nice to have a day when you might get a card and presents and more importantly, chocolate and a some nice food! Any excuse!

Maybe some people go overboard on the heart shaped gifts, but most don't and just do small thoughtful gestures.

I sent cards to my sister and friend too. Just a little gesture to let them know I'm thinking of them, appreciate them and give them a giggle!

Um... Birthdays are the anniversary of the day you come into the world. Valentines a made up holiday, hallmark targetting idiots (the people taking it seriously).

Also LOL at people getting engaged on valentines... Wow, original.

Storminateacup can we have less of the insulting other members and their opinions please? Calling another member or members "idiots" again will get you a ban. Thank you.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

It's not made up it's St. Valentines Day. The day dates back waaaaay before Halmark! I'm a bit mad for history so here's a cool link with some of the old traditions.

    http://www.pictureframes.co.uk/pages/saint_valentine.htm

It's just observing traditions. Like we make crosses on St. Brigid's Day, wear green St. Patrick's Day and do trick or treating and dress up on Halloween. It's just a bit of fun. I like holidays, reason to celebrate small things throughout the year.

To be honest, I haven't a clue of what to do for Valentines Day with my girlfriend.

We're only relatively new together (2 months) and it'll be the first one either of us will have celebrated together (and individually-both single for far too long before hand :P)

We're also fairly broke money wise! However, the day shouldn't go unnoticed obviously and I do have a meaningful gift that I scraped a few shillings together to buy her...

I feel like i should surprise her and plan what to do on the day but part of me thinks we should talk about it and see what we'd both like to do - but that'd lose some of the fun...

    Any suggestions? :D

updated, valentines plans for me will be getting dressed up with something new, hair done etc, go to see the vow with lots of icecream and girlie snacks with my mate, then onto cafe en seine for their speed dating night, it sounds like it could be an awesome valentines after all! :D

I understand the fun element to it, what I don't understand is the ridiculous hype. The ridiculously overpriced (and gross) menu, people slobbering all over, sickening "romantic" hotel deals, the "oh we got engaged on valentines day, it was so romantic", the stupid cards, (although I think it's nice to make one!) the flowers.

The "I'm getting my boyfriend a 32inch flatscreen so he can play xbox" kind of presents make me sick. It's such a garish holiday.

Storm Valentine's and Christmas Day proposals wreck my head, have a bit of imagination, don't pick the most obvious "romantic" days! My uncle got married on Valentine's Day, gak.
