Found a female pitbull pup in Dooradoyle on Sunday night. She is black with some brown spotting and a white patch on her chest. We think she is about 4-5 months old and seems well cared for. Is very friendly and seems used to kids which makes me think she is a family pet. If anyone is missing her or knows someone pm me. Can't add a photo from my phone but maybe if a mod could pm me an email address that I could send it on to and they could add it, thanks.

maybe give Limerick animal welfare a shout and drop the Limerick post an email to the pets page with a pic. Or stick an auld pic or info up in the crescent or a local newsagents.

Fair dues to you for picking her up and taking her in. I read posts in the pets section of people worrying over their lost pets and I know if my fella got out I'd be a mess.

Speaking of which. Time for his walk! Best of luck with it...

Thanks, I was on to LAW already, they'll put her up on their facebook page but won't take her coz she's a pitbull. She's a lovely dog but we can't keep her with a toddler and a baby. I've put her up on my own facebook as well and all my friends are sharing, hopefully we can find her owner or a good home for her.

Might be worth putting a notice up on the notice board in the Crescent Shopping Centre and local shops/take aways.

You could also contact Crescent Veterinary Clinic @ 061-301841 and also the other Vet there beside the Regional Hospital - Dooradoyle Pet Clinic @ 061-301433.

They may have had the owners in looking for her already. And leave any pic you have with them.

No, brought her to the vet to check for micro chip, none there. They reckon she was dumped by her owner. And it turns out she's a staff bull terrier not a pit bull like we thought. A friend of a friend of mine runs a sanctuary for bull breeds so hoping to find someone thru them that might give her a home.

I would have no problem homing her, ive been looking for a staff for a while now.

Def think this dog was probably picked up as a pup and then dumped when the owner realised it needed effort and responsibility.

Why do Knackers love the ex fighting dog breeds so much? (?????)

They should restrict the ownership (ie who gets them) rather than the whole muzzling law thing, I hope paws here bit the Scumbag repeatedly in the face before it was abandoned.......

Limerick Animal Welfare wont do much for you as they dont deal with any bull breeds or other "dangerous dogs". There are other rescues that will take her in. I just took in a pit/staff pup myself 5 weeks ago, yet another dumped off pup. (have 2 of these breed already and theyr brilliant with kids and everyone they meet! I can give you some numbers of rescues that will take her a find a good home for her: second chance animal rescue in shannon 061 703549 or Mike Madden 0879456733. Also EGAR in galway. Hope her owner turns up, and if not that she finds a good home!

Actually, just thinking about it, its very possible she is a sister to the pup i have! She was handed into a Vet in Dooradoyle so same area, same age. We got her on the 2nd Jan and guessed she was about 16 weeks old then. . . . Vet said a staff too but we though maybe pit or cross as shes tall. Any pics of your pup?

Have you contacted EGAR they specialise in bull breeds. If you cant find the owner they may be able to help you out.

My partner thinks she's a cross as well, she has very long legs. I' m waiting to hear back from egar, sent them a message but heard nothing yet. I' ll try the other numbers you suggested thanks.

did you manage to rehome this dog?

Could also try Brian Fitz rescue if LAW cant accept the dog and its not been re-homed yet. An old buddy of mine who I've not heard from in a few years that runs the place and he has family running Kennels too.

Never managed to rehome her, never heard back from egar either despite a few emails and phone messages. We had to have her put down in the end, woke up one morning to find all her hair gone from her hind legs and back and she was covered in bleeding sores. Vet said it was kinder to put her to sleep :-(

Ah that's sad. Better off in the long run tho. You're a good person for trying.

What was wrong with her? Was it for medical reasons that she was put down or because you couldn't keep her?
Rescues are overflowing with unwanted dogs unfortunately and the people that run them are usually totally overwhelmed with their workload and under resourced. RIP little puppy :(

So Magentas, you found your way to the link here before it was deleted by AJ. Surprised by the attitude shown over there tbh . So much for trying to do the decent thing. When you come up against that carry on by the so-called "powers that be", it makes you despair that you can't even ask a straight question without getting a slap on the wrist for it.

LB6, don't bring disputes with other moderators on other forums into this one. If you want to ask a poster a question, PM them. Don't start a thread about it.

Anyway, I think this thread has reached its logical conclusion.
