Can you get a license (restricted) for a 22lr where the mag holds more than 5 rounds???

Or do these come under the same regs as the centerfire handgun system???

A 22lr handgun with a magazine capable of holding more that 5 rounds is classed as a restricted short firearm - all other calibre of handguns are classed as.restricted short firearms.

right now, applications for licenses for restricted short firearms are not being accepted-- unless you already held a license prior to Nov 2008

If the magazine, on the 22lr, is modified to only hold five rounds the firearm is no longer deemed restricted and may be applied for.

It's awkward, but it's about as ridiculous as the way you can load a slug into an unrestricted shotgun and get a restricted firearm as a result.
