I am thinking of switching back to Electric Ireland was with the ESB up till 18 months ago can you explain to me what the Green price plan is and the Green Nighsaver. Also would it be best to use the washing machine/dishwasher at night or does that make any difference? Have a housemate who only half fills it and puts it on during the day.

    Hi Shoes34,

    Thanks for your interest. :)

With the Green price plan, revenue generated from the customer's units used is put towards sustainable energy projects, such as wind, wave etc. Direct debit and online billing (statement by email) are mandatory on this plan (non paper) thus entitling the customer to a 6% discount (4% for direct debit, 2% for online billing) on an electricity account. On a Dual Fuel (electricity and gas) account, the customer is entitled to a 9% discount in total.

Nightsaver is applicable to those who have a dual-tariff (day and night) meter installed - cheaper for night use. This does not apply to a standard 24-hour meter. So to answer the last part of your query, it would depend on what type of meter you have in the premises.

Further info on our FAQ here.

    Regards,
    Una
