The new numbers are so hard to make out!! Two of the historically "weaker" 071s on the hardest duties for the class!

Spotted this sign/logo under the side cab window of 082 the other day. Does anyone know what it is?

Its the locos nameplate - Cumann Na nInnealtoiri / The Institution Of Engineers Of Ireland. Been named since the mid 00's, and been there when the loco was IE orange

It's the old logo for the IEI (Institute of Engineers in Ireland), now known simply as Engineers Ireland.

082 received the IEI nameplate on Tuesday 11th February 1997 at Heuston Station. There is a photo of the locomotive on the current Murphy Model 071 box taken at Heuston Station on that day in February 1997.

Damn new no's looking at that I'm still seeing 078! So it was the loco formally known as 088 then? Is there a -1 tacked on too? Do the other no's mean anything interesting?

It's the UIC system. They ID the loco as a diesel loco (92) from Ireland (60), Irish rail added the (0117) as a prefix to the 071 class. The -1 at the end is the "check number", not 100% sure how the check number works but either 071 or 077 has -4 and can't remember the other.
