Heard 075 but didn't see her damn job gets in the way of everything!

January 2008 & the KRP is under way. 071s / orange 201s & MK3s were still dominating Heuston services!

080 is light engine in the loop at Sallins, Newbridge bound . Any reason to have taken her off the Sperry train for 086?

Pictures taken from facebook of 085, seems IE themselves are having trouble ID'ing the 071 class with UIC numbers.

Note the yellow tow bar stored on the front for shunting DMUs and EMUs around Inchicore.

Colour coded piping at the front makes my day, being a sad man with a pencil case full of about 20 different coloured pens =/

I reckon 074 will be the next to be painted. Just passed it sitting in the gullet into Heuston, one end is covered in graffiti.

It's been going around like that for a few weeks now. There are 071s in worse condition with alot of rust around the cab windows like 072 and 081.

    Friday 29-Nov-13
079 on Ballina-Waterford DFDS in center road at Kildare at 15:00
072 on HOBs (shut down) in Portarlington ballast loading siding.
071 (I think) on Waterford-West of Ireland empty timber departed Athlone after the 14:45 cleared the Athlone west Jcn.-Knockcroghery section.

The red warning line for overhead wires as previously carried would add another bit of flair.

Always said that myself and a red buffer beam like they had when in orange. That would set the livery off nicely.

Is there any reason IE have embarked on the refurb of the 071's rather than some of the non pp 201's or stopped pp locos? If they are standardizing the fleet and trying to reduce costs and maintenance etc it seems an odd decision given that the 201's can be used in more roles and are a younger loco?

1 They are lighter and hammer the track less

2 there is no onboard computer therefore less to go wrong- like the guinness liner back in the day which couldnt leave heuston because it couldnt get the all doors shut light

Also the 071s are needed for the tara run as the 201s are too long for the traverser at the unloading point. The mine is said to be viable up to 2020 at least. If anything it looks like IE would like the 201s gone and have everything covered by ICRs.

    Wednesday 4/12 2013.
073 0n the laden tara mines, passing Howth Junction & Donaghmede at 11:29.
