    Hi :)

    I want to do something to improve my job prospects so I`m looking at springboard courses. I have a level 8 in Accounting currently. I`ve always liked computers and have done well in my modules in college but have very little education in the subject and am not great at self study. Heres the spec pity they don`t have the actual modules thou :

    Objectives Graduates will be able to: •Identify the different roles and responsibilities that exist within the software development lifecycle and Healthcare IT projects (in particular); •Work as part of a team to perform the following roles within a software development organisation: •Healthcare (Medical Device) Software quality assurance, with a focus upon the processes required to obtain regulatory compliance; •Software Testing; •Software Development; •Healthcare IT Systems Analysis; •Software project management; •Evaluate the applicability and strategic impact of emerging technologies and standards in the healthcare IT environment.

    Long Description The aim of the programme is to provide graduates with up-to-date knowledge of the core elements of computing, and to prepare them for a career in healthcare/ medical device software quality assurance, software testing, software development, or project management in any of the following sectors:

    •the emerging healthcare sector of the software industry;
    • the medical device software industry;
    • the wider software industry.

    Why Choose This Course? It is expected that most graduates will initially gain employment at an entry level in the Healthcare/Medical Device software industry. However, they will be equipped with specialist skills that will enable them to progress quickly in their chosen career path.

    Due to the changes in regulation within the Healthcare/Medical device software domain there is a shortage of quality assurance engineers, software development engineers, software testers and software project managers that have knowledge of the regulatory expectations regarding software development within this sector.

    Additionally, at present there is significant general demand for software graduates within the wider Irish software industry.

    The course has support from a number of Healthcare/Medical Device software companies who are offering internships and/or looking to employ graduates from the course.

    Career Opportunities Graduates of this course will be particularly attractive to employers as prior to entry on this course they may have worked for a considerable period in industry and therefore possess desirable domain experience. In fact, in some cases such graduates may be able to enter the industry at a more senior level.

    So what do you think? will it have job prospects?

    Sorry to say it but if your looking to get into SW dev on the health side of things there really isn't a lot there.
    The main customers are the health boards/government and they will only buy externally developed content. But at the moment they have no money.
    Why not go into a more broader development course. That way the entire field is open to you.
    Even combine your accountancy with development, you'd be an ideal hire.

    Hey which Institute are you doing your course in? I can't decide which course to do & I sort of need to decide today. I was thinking the DKIT one is too vague, & perhaps the DIT or ITB one would be better?? But I am clueless to be honest. The college prospectuses are confusing to say the least.......I do realise ICT is the way to go in this country at min, but I want to choose the right course. I'm in my 30's, & I don't want to do yet another course after this. Please help.......

    Hey did you decide on your course yet? I am considering the ICT courses myself but can't decide which one to choose. Some of them have started this week, so the pressure is on to decide?? Any thoughts you have on this would be really appreciated. I keep reading the DKIT one (Healthcare), because my background is Medical Devices but there seems to be a lot of vague electives. Am I wrong in thinking this??
