    Hi,

Hoping someone can help, I'm looking for some information on Video Sizes etc..

UPC sent me a letter today saying i have "been exceeding the acceptable usage guideline"

The letter then goes on to say that i have uploaded/downloaded in excess of
    (673.29999999999995) GB During January 2012.

Okay hands up, i downloaded a few torrents of TV Series. But i got them in very compressed (Albeit HQ) format.
I'd say (And can check) that they came to a grand total of 100GB's (I'm being generous, with that figure).

E.G. One TV Series, I got was 4.3GB for seasons 1,2,3 with extra's.

I have watched a few DivX streaming shows, maybe one every 2nd night, half hour show, without adverts.. (They average around 300,000KB, mostly less.)

I disconnect from the internet whenever i'm not near it or in bed.

But there is NO WAY i have exceeded 600GB's of Broadband usage.

My Nephew watches A LOT of youtube, and he plays XBOX Live a lot, and i watched 5 football matches online.

Does anyone know the average size of a youtube video?
Closest i could find is THIS INFO, but not a lot there.

How much bandwidth does Xbox live take up?

How much Does an average Football match take?

I may have seeded a couple of torrents for too long, as i don't like to stop them immediately, but i don't think there was 400GB's or 300, or even 200 for that matter, uploaded from me.

I have my own password on my Router, so i doubt neighbours are hijacking.
Are they "testing" me, as i don't normally download torrents?
I just decided to get a few shows for my Boxee, last month But as i said, 100GB is me exaggerating it.
I have never received a letter like this before, i have been with them over 4 years.

If i got Netflix, i'd be screwed...

Ring them and ask them for a detailed print out of your usage.

Had the same from them. When I enquired further they told me it was because of torrents seeding after they had finished downloading. So make sure you delete the torrent immediately after it finishes. It's a bit annoying. They even switched my account to a more expensive one without giving me a proper reason so watch out!

Yeah, UPC's cap is combined download and upload so the likely culprit is the seeding torrents.

You could limit the upload bandwidth in your torrent client so that it can't feasibly use that much, or most clients will allow you auto-stop a torrent when it reaches a certain ratio (see Queueing if you use uTorrent)

Ask them for a day-to-day breakdown (they provided me with one when I hounded them).

Apparently they're introducing a customer usage monitor by the end of the year, so the rep said via e-mail.

What torrent client did you use. Utorrent will show what you downloaded and uploaded (in the help menu, Show Statistics)

Discussing the download of TV shows by illegal means? Not on this forum you don't.
